MnDOT District 6 may fill up to 32 temporary and/or emergency snowplow operator positions at the Transportation Generalist or Transportation Associates classifications in various district truck stations throughout the district. These positions will be filled in the following locations: ****Please note only positions in Red Wing are remaining.** + Albert Lea + Austin + Dresbach + Owatonna + Red Wing + Rochester + Stewartville + Winona During a snow & ice season a snowplow shift is typically an A shift (12:00am-12:00pm) or B shift (12:00pm-12:00am); an employee may be asked to work more than an 8-hour shift depending on the length of the snow event. Temporary employees may work full-time or part-time (2-5 days, M-F, 7:00am - 3:30pm) or they work a snow & ice shift; snow & ice shifts can occur on regularly scheduled work days and scheduled days off, including Saturday and Sunday. Emergency employees are intermittent fill in drivers; they work a snow & ice shift, filling in for regular operators who are not available. Hours of work may include overtime, various shifts depending on emergency situations and will include working nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbents must have immediate access to a phone and be able to report to work within one-hour of being called. Some examples of work are listed below and not limited to the following: Function Snow and Ice: + Maintains roadways for snow and ice control + Prepares and inspects winter equipment + Performs preseason snow route inspection and performs post storm cleanup + Performs winter stockpile setup and transfer of anti-icing chemical + Maintain documentation on snow and ice data for accurate reporting of inventory and resource management + performs traffic control set-ups and/or provides notification to dispatch of disabled vehicles New employees must pass a pre-placement drug test for evidence of use of marijuana, cocaine, opiates, phencyclidine (PCP) and amphetamines (MDMA, MDA and MDEA) and acetylmorphine (6-AM). A revoked, suspended or canceled Driver's License within the last five (5) years may disqualify a candidate or three (3) serious traffic violations during any 12 month period of time will disqualify a candidate. **Minimum Qualifications** (NOTE: Your resume must clearly address the required experience/skills listed below in order to continue in the hiring process. **Transportation Generalist Minimum Qualifications:** + **Experience:** One year of experience performing activities in snow and ice, soils, road surface maintenance, roadside maintenance, bridge maintenance, signs or related activities (roadway maintenance, driving commercial vehicles, landscaping, operating heavy equipment or farm experience). OR + **Education:** Successful completion of a Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance Program (of at least 60 semester credits; or 90 quarter credits) will substitute for one year of experience. AND + Valid Commercial Drivers' License, Class A or B with no air brake restriction. + Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak, and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records. **Transportation Associate Minimum Qualifications:** + Valid Commercial Drivers' License, Class A or B with no air brake restriction. + Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records. + Veterans may be eligible for a waiver of CDL based on military experience. Responsibilities include: + Develop and present interpretive activities by developing and conducting interpretive tours, operate lighting system on the cave tour routes, present safety and conservation messages to cave tour visitors, and present interpretive talks and/or activities above ground. + Perform information and sales duties by meeting and greeting the public at assigned information/ticket sales area, sell tickets and gift store items; perform remittance, conduct inventory of gift store merchandise, and maintain shelves, counters, and walls in public view. + Perform administrative functions by responding to inquiries from the public orally and in writing, attend and participate in staff meetings, record, and file visitor attendance, and create interpretive signs, forms, and spreadsheets. + Perform operational duties by enabling safe, smooth, and efficient cave operations to be carried out. **Minimum Qualifications** + Bachelor's degree in one of the physical sciences such as ecology, zoology, botany, geology, geography, OR a cultural resource focused degree such as American history, anthropology, archeology, OR parks and recreation management OR environmental education and interpretation OR equivalent. + Three months relevant public speaking experience in a formal or informal setting. Relevant speaking experience may include professional, volunteer, or internship work. Additional requirements include: + Advanced oral communication skills sufficient to present information on environmental and cultural values, facts, and theories in a clear and understandable manner to diverse individuals and groups. + Writing skills sufficient to develop materials, compile reports and write interesting and educational news releases. + Advanced human relations skills. + Ability/willingness to work as part of a team with changing assignments. + Understanding of interpretive techniques including the ability to assess audiences and the effectiveness of interpretive media. + Skills in historical, cultural, and natural resource research and literature search techniques. + Computer skills, i.e., MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. **Preferred Qualifications** + Prior experience conducting interpretive programs in Minnesota State Parks. + Prior work experience in Forestville Mystery Cave State Park. + Six months professional experience in public speaking, interpersonal communication, interpretation, or education. + Understanding of Minnesota's natural and cultural history and resource management. + Knowledge sufficient to identify plants and animals. + Knowledge of park resources. + Background in natural/cultural resource interpretation. + Understanding of basic interpretive exhibit and display standards and techniques. + Understanding of educational curriculum and materials sufficient to assess their effectiveness. + Illustration/photography/visual presentation skills. + Well-developed problem-solving skills. + Organizational skills sufficient to develop, schedule and implement summer programs. + Ability to manage visitors and deal with emergency response situations. **Additional Requirements** + This position requires an unrestricted Class D Driver's license with a clear driving record; per DNR Fleet Policy, only those 18 years of age or older with a valid driver's license may operate equipment and vehicles on behalf of the Agency Applicants must have the ability to meet the physical requirements and work in the environmental conditions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations.
