Youth Advocates create safe and supportive environments by providing supervision, mentorship, redirection, and listening skills to youth who are healing from trauma, dealing with life stressors, and working towards independent living. Youth Advocates create a safe and supportive environment for youth who need immediate shelter or crisis stabilization due to homelessness, runaway, family conflict, school problems, trauma, or encounter with law enforcement, juvenile probation, or child protective services. Youth Advocates provide empathy, mentorship, and conflict management. They also provide coaching that empowers residents to heal, find healthy solutions, and strengthen problem-solving skills as part of their developmental stage towards self-sufficiency. Youth Advocates work as part of a team to provide consistency and support the case management in place. Youth Advocates work with the youth to ensure they understand their responsibilities within the program, provide structure, offer encouragement, and be positive role models.
Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
Be a positive role model for the youth and resolve conflict in a constructive fashion.
Take crisis calls, conduct call screenings, intakes and discharges.
Support daily case management goals for the youth.
Teach and model the skills necessary to maintain good health through the teaching of healthy eating habits.
After training provide passing medication through our Medication Administration policy using proper documentation.
Provide concise communication via case notes, staff logs, phone contacts, resident files, medical administration forms, etc.

Maintain appropriate involvement in daily and recreational activities with the youth through positive role-modeling, sportsmanship and safety.

Under the direction of the Racial Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (REDI) Manager, the Health Equity Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing community outreach and public health initiatives for the City of Brooklyn Park (COBP). This role supports city-wide efforts to advance health equity and address the social determinants of health through collaboration, education, and strategic engagement.
Key responsibilities may include conducting data analysis to identify and address health disparities, leading outreach and engagement efforts, developing and delivering cultural competency training, and collaborating with internal and external partners to implement health equity strategies.
This position is a non-supervisory position.
* Coordinates the Health on the Go (HOTG) program, including planning, coordination, implementation, of the Health Equity Action Plan (HEAP) to improve health outcomes and access.
* Develops and maintains strategic partnerships with community-based organizations, healthcare providers, schools, local government agencies, and stakeholders to advance equity-based public health efforts.
* Designs and facilitates community engagement efforts, including culturally responsive outreach, listening sessions, and authentic relationship building with under-served populations.
* Coordinates and leads health equity initiatives, cross-departmental collaboration, and programmatic integration of social determinants of health in city planning and service delivery.
* Conducts data collection and analysis in collaboration with internal and external partners to identify disparities, track outcomes, and evaluate health equity strategies and impact.
* Prepares and presents reports, dashboards, presentations, and summaries of data-driven health disparities assessments to inform internal planning and share with stakeholders and city leadership.
* Supports policy development and implementation efforts aimed at reducing disparities and embedding health equity within city-wide policies, plans, and practices.
* Coordinates internal cultural competency and equity training in collaboration with REDI Manager and other staff to improve understanding and inclusion across departments.
* Maintains a repository of tools, best practices, and resources, including the management of online content related to health equity and community wellness on the city website.
* Plans and executes the annual Health on the Go Resource Fair, including logistics, partner coordination, and program promotion to connect residents with key services and resources.
* Supports the REDI Manager in aligning health equity goals with broader citywide Racial Equity Framework and departmental objectives.
* Collaborates with REDI team to co-develop inclusive public messaging and resource materials for community distribution.
* Facilitates quarterly HEAP meetings and ad hoc workgroups to advance targeted equity outcomes.
* Coordinates evaluation and quality improvement plans related to HOTG and HEAP deliverables.
* Partners with communications staff to ensure that materials and digital content are accessible, culturally responsive, and equity focused.
* Assists with development of health disparity education campaigns tailored to high-risk, historically marginalized populations.
* Tracks and reports on REALD/SOGI (Race, Ethnicity, Language, Disability / Sexual Orientation & Gender Identity) data to monitor progress toward closing health gaps.
* Provides input and support in the development of internal tools to measure community wellness, health access, and equity improvements.
* Participates in city, regional, and state-level health equity learning networks and advisory committees.
* Supports evaluation and refinement of program strategies by identifying best practices, trends, and innovations in health equity.

The BBAY uses a collective impact framework for shared action. The Youth Engagement Specialist's position will be responsible for a robust recruitment and outreach strategy for youth in Brooklyn Center and Brooklyn Park at their schools and across partner organizations to participate in conversations, opportunities, initiatives, and programs available at the Brooklyn Bridge Alliance for Youth and its partner organizations.

* Previous training or experience in systems building, racial equity, diversity, project management, and facilitation.
* Experience in creating partnerships with organizations and youth in the community.
* Ability to perform a variety of planning, administrative, supervisory, and community relations work requiring independent judgment.
* Ability to foster and promote positive teamwork amongst youth and adults.
* Ability to follow through on tasks in a timely manner.
* Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
* Excellent organizational skills.
* Understanding of professional workplace norms and expectations.
* Previous experience working with diverse populations.
* Fluency in Spanish, Hmong, Russian, Somali, Lao or Vietnamese language(s).

* Core business hours are set by departments based on operational needs. Alternative schedules can be arranged, but must comply with the City's Alternative Work Arrangement policy.
* Part-time, non-exempt, non-union position; flexible work schedule up to 29 hours a week. Working hours will reflect the activities of the initiative and will include evening and weekend hours.
* Majority of hours will be at partner schools e.g., Brooklyn Center, Highview, Robbinsdale.
* Ability to meet physical demands of the job, including but not limited to, prolonged standing, walking, and sitting.
