Donald R. Young has been President, Chief Executive Officer and a member of the board of directors since November 2001. Prior to joining Aspen Aerogels, Mr. Young served as Chief Executive Officer of HighWired, a leading venture capital backed software and e-learning company. Prior to that, Mr. Young worked in the United States and abroad in a broad range of senior operating roles for Cabot Corporation, a leading global specialty chemical company. Prior to Cabot Corporation, Mr. Young worked in the investment business at Fidelity Management & Research. Mr. Young holds a BA from Harvard College and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Mr. Bakker was named President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Hubbell in June of 2019, after serving as President of the Power Systems group since 2014. During his tenure as COO, Mr. Bakker introduced a new operating rhythm to the enterprise while executing on Hubbell’s strategic initiatives and partnering closely with Mr. Nord to guide Hubbell through the COVID-19 pandemic. As President of Power Systems, Mr. Bakker oversaw a multi-year period of strong performance, building an industry-leading electrical T&D components business and leading many key acquisitions, including Aclara, in 2018. Mr. Bakker began his career with Hubbell Incorporated in 1988 as a manufacturing engineer with Hubbell Wiring Systems and has held positions of increasing leadership around the world in both Hubbell’s utility and electrical segments.

As both a business leader and a growth strategist, I have broad expertise in all aspects of leading a successful business. New challenges excite me, and I build and lead teams to realize significant growth in revenue and profitability. I’m a progressive-thinking problem-solver, applying the theory that while business problems themselves may be quite complex, the solutions can often be broken down into manageable components. With extensive experience working in the international markets of Asia and Europe, I bring a global perspective to my work. Most recently engaged as President and CEO of A123 Systems, I managed all operational, financial, and strategic initiatives for this global manufacturer of lithium-ion battery solutions. During my tenure, I grew the company’s original equipment manufacturer (OEM) customer base by 250%, doubled annual revenue, and moved the company to profitability. With my proven history of turnaround management, my ability to create and lead high-performing teams, and my strong business and financial acumen, I am poised to make a swift and meaningful contribution to a dynamic organization.
