Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) and the Directors of the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station (MAFES) and the MSU Extension Service (MSU-ES), the Department Head will:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsibilities
Completes initial medical record reviews of all inpatient patient accounts (all payers) within 24-48 hours of admission for a specified patient population to:
(a) Evaluate and review inpatient medical records daily, concurrent with patient stay, to identify opportunities to clarify missing or incomplete documentation.
(b) Assign the principal diagnosis, pertinent secondary diagnoses, procedures for accurate MS-DRG assignment, score risk of mortality and severity of illness and initiate a review worksheet.
(c) Conduct follow-up reviews of patients every 2-3 days to support and assign a working or final MS-DRG assignment upon patient discharge, as necessary.
Formulate clinically, compliant and credible physician queries regarding missing, unclear or conflicting health record documentation by requesting and obtaining additional documentation within the health record, as necessary.
Proactively collaborate with physicians to discuss and clarify documentation inconsistencies to ensure accuracy of the medical record and appropriate capture of the course of treatment provided to the patient.

Denial issues may include: post-discharge medical necessity, DRG validations, retroactive prior authorizations, Recovery Audit Contractor (RAC) and other claim audits.

The RN Case Manager will be responsible for facilitating the discharge planning process for patients across various inpatient units. The position requires a strong understanding of acute care management and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities
Conduct medical discharge planning for a diverse caseload of 15-20 patients daily.
Collaborate with the Social Work team and consult with various departments as needed.
Utilize navi Health for referrals and prepare for the transition to EPIC Care Management.
Ensure appropriate patient placements in alignment with established criteria.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
Active RN license with at least 2 years of acute care management experience.
Experience in discharge planning within a level 1 or large academic medical center.
Proficiency in EPIC charting is mandatory.
BLS certification is required, and CCM certification is preferred but not mandatory.
BSN preferred, ADN considered.
Flu vaccination requirement with allowance for medical exemptions.
