Missouri Baptist University company history timeline

1964

The first meeting of the Board of Trustees for Missouri Baptist College was held in January 1964.

In July 1964, leaders acquired the site of MBU's main campus, metropolitan land near Interstate 270 and United States Route 40 in West Saint Louis County.

1967

The first baccalaureate degrees were awarded in 1967.

1968

In September 1968, 186 students began classes, more than tripling the institution's size in just over a decade.

1968: Almost 200 students begin classes

1973

In May 1973, Missouri Baptist College graduated its first class of twenty-nine students, each earning a Bachelor of Arts degree.

1973: The first class of 29 students graduates with Bachelor of Arts degrees

1978

1978: The school achieves its initial accreditation from the North Central Association under the leadership of the college’s third president, Doctor Robert Sutherland

1980

In 1980, Missouri Baptist College began a new chapter of its life with the completion of the Pillsbury-Huff Residence Halls, converting from a commuter campus to a residential institution.

1986

In the fall of 1986, MBC began offering courses in both Jefferson and Franklin counties.

1995

Doctor R. Alton Lacey took the reins of Missouri Baptist University in 1995 as the university's sixth president.

1999

1999: Spirit of Excellence Campaign raises $10 million for the Pillsbury Chapel and Dale Williams Fine Arts Center

2000

2000: The University was approved to offer its first masters-level program, the Master of Science in Education.

2002

In the spring of 2002, the campus completed the Spirit of Excellence campaign with the dedication of the new $10 million Pillsbury Chapel and Dale Williams Fine Arts Center.

2008

2008: MBU began offering its first online degree program, The Master of Science in Education.

2009

2009: The University launched its first terminal degree program, the Doctor of Education.

In the Fall Semester of 2009, the university began offering its first doctorate program, a Doctorate of Education.

2011

2011: Missouri Baptist University opens the Carl and Deloris Petty Sports and Recreation Complex, a state of the art, 47,000 square foot facility aimed at aiding learning and health and wellness.

2012

St John's changed its name in 2012, making the name of the college Mercy College of Nursing and Health Sciences of SBU. Today, the College of Health Professions maintains a valuable partnership with Mercy Health Systems.

2014

2014: MBU celebrates its 50th anniversary and Doctor Lacey’s 20th year as University president.

2015

2015: MBU dedicates the Don and Mary Pillsbury Wainwright Performance Hall, located in the The Pillsbury Chapel and Dale Williams Fine Arts Center.

2016

2016: MBU completes the final phase of Spartan Village with the completion of Spartan South, dorm-style buildings with a capacity of 80 students.

2017

In 2017, Doctor R. Alton Lacey announced his retirement after 23 years as MBU president.

2018

MBU receives initial approval from the Missouri Board of Nursing to begin offering a nursing degree in January 2018.

Lacey assumed the role as chancellor in January 2018.

2022

SAINT LOUIS (April 29, 2022)–The Heart of America Athletic Conference is pleased to announce the addition of the Missouri Baptist University football program as an Associate Member to the conference.
