On March 22, 1913, the Missouri Legislature created the Missouri Highway Department.

Since 1987, Missouri's Adopt-A-Highway program has involved volunteers across the state working together to clean up Missouri.

2002

In early 2002, after almost eight years of planning, design and construction, MoDOT’s Transportation Management Center (TMC) and the Gateway Guide program became operational.

2003

In early 2003, the Transportation Management Center and the Gateway Guide program officially became a 24 hours a day, seven days a week operation in Missouri.

2004

2004 In November, Missouri voters approved Constitutional Amendment 3, which requires all revenues from the sale of motor vehicles come to MoDOT

2006

In 2006, MoDOT’s Transportation Management Center took over after hour calls for the entire southern half of the state.

2008

They implemented a strategic highway safety plan titled Missouri's Blueprint for Safer Roadways and began the Arrive Alive campaign, setting a goal to reduce roadway fatalities to 1,000 or fewer by 2008.

2010

By 2010, MoDOT had 125 dynamic message signs in the St Louis area and posted tens of thousands of messages.
