Applicants can be considered for I, II, or Sr. level Mobile Trailer Technician depending on verified years of experience and position availability. No roadside repairs - set shift schedule - No on call work!Key Responsibilities: Perform intermediate level troubleshooting and preventive maintenance tasks to include, but not limited to, tire replacements/flat repairs, brake adjustments/services/replacements, electrical diagnostics, basic structural repairs on trailer chassis, sub-frames, etc. Perform annual AA Trailer and FHWA Brake Inspections sign off. Patch holes in trailer/container side panels and roofs ensuring all holes are sealed and watertight. Understand and demonstrate the proficient use of a cutting torch and welding equipment and perform mid-level repairs on chassis, frames, brackets, etc. Properly document damage to company equipment to allow subrogation of repair costs. Accurately complete work orders and other written materials according to established procedures. Operate assigned service truck in a professional manner and according to company requirements; keep unit clean and well stocked. Follow all safety requirements while at a customer or rail yard. Properly attend to truck inventory. Troubleshoot and repair ABS system.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: 18 years of age for equipment up to 10,000 pounds or 21 years of age for equipment over 10,000 pounds. 1 year of experience in Semi-Tractor/Trailer maintenance and repair and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. At least 1-year of experience in Federal Highway inspections and air brakes. Illustrate a clean motor vehicle record as per JB Hunt guidelines.
Preferred Qualifications: 1-3 years of experience in Semi-Trailer maintenance and repair and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Commercial Driver's License. DOT certified in FHWA Inspections & Air Brakes. Welding certification. Forklift certification and experience. EPA section 608 certification and Refrigeration License. Ability to communicate (written and verbal) effectively. Ability to fulfill physical requirements (lift/move appliance up to 50 pounds). Ability to multitask. Ability to read documents and/or information in English. Ability to wear appropriate work attire (protective gear/PPE). Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Location: Western North Dakota
Job Status: Full Time
Schedule: Monday through Friday, (hours may vary based on jobs). Overtime and possibly on-call. Daily travel - 100%; Overnight travel – up to 30%.

As directed by the Mobile Repair Unit Manager, assists in the maintenance and repair of rail cars.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities but are not limited to:

  • Stencil letters and numbers on cars.
  • Fasten parts of car using impact wrench or hydraulic bolt fastener for riveting.
  • Remove and replace brake assemblies and brake shoes.
  • Remove and replace uncoupling lever.
  • Repair or replace steel sections such as side posts, rafters, crossties, panels, under framing, and piping using welding torch, electric welder, power wrench, and hand tools.
  • Replace and/or repair gaskets, air hose, train line, etc., as required.
  • Straighten and/or replace grab irons, handholds, still steps on cars.
  • Maintain, repair, or replace air brake pipes, valves, fitting, or other appurtenances.
  • Remove and replace couplers, draft gears, and yokes.
  • Clean and prepare surfaces of railroad cars or cabooses to be painted.
  • Repair freight car sides, ends, doors and floors by burning, straightening, or patching.
  • Pull, push, and position heavy equipment or car components when making or completing repairs.
  • Other duties as assigned by foreman or manager.
  • Ability to throw/align a switch.
  • Ability to be trained as track mobile operator and/or ground-man.

Competencies:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Valid driver’s license required with individual driver record compliant with Total TransCare’s motor vehicle insurance eligibility requirements. Class B CDL is preferred.
  • Good mechanical background will be required to become conversant with the General Code of Operating Rules, Safety Rules, AAR Rules and regulations, and FRA requirements.
  • Welding and machine experience preferred.
  • Apply principles of rational systems to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Be able to read and understand safety rules, instructions in the use and maintenance of shop tools and equipment, and methods and procedures in mechanical drawing and layout work.

The primary function of this position is to perform skilled mechanical work in the repair and maintenance of Forklifts and heavy-duty equipment. The Mobile Equipment Mechanic/Specialist is responsible for the performance of skilled mechanical tasks in the major repair of, heavy Forklift equipment and support equipment with minimum or no supervision. General supervision is received from an immediate supervisor.

Mobile Equipment Specialist Responsibilities Include:

+ Maintain and repair trucks, pickups, heavy construction and Forklift equipment and support equipment.

+ Maintain records of work performed.

+ Maintain exterior, interior shop and work area cleanliness, according to company policy and industrial waste handling procedures.
