Founded in 1983, Mobile Mini Inc. is the world’s leading provider of portable storage solutions, committed to providing our customers with superior services and access to a high-quality and diverse fleet.
In 1986, he established a sales and leasing branch in the Tucson, Arizona, market.
1986 - Mobile Mini began expanding along the West Coast in cities including Los Angeles and Tucson.
In 1990, Bunger moved the operation from Phoenix to Tempe, where he now set up his headquarters.
1990: Manufacturing and administrative offices are relocated to the Tempe area.
1990: Merger of Scotsman and WMO
1993: The company is incorporated.
Mobile Mini moved into the Texas market in 1994, opening hub operations in Houston and Dallas/Fort Worth.
The company's Texas footprint was widened early in 1995 with the opening of offices in San Antonio and Austin.
Ever since Mobile Mini decided in 1996 to focus on leasing storage units rather than sales, it has enjoyed tremendous growth.
His eldest son, Steven, became president and chief executive officer of the company in 1997 and oversaw the day-to-day execution of its expansion, while Bunger retained the chairmanship of the corporation.
In April 1998, the company entered the Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, market and complemented its Texas operations with the purchase of Aspen Instant Storage, at the cost of $550,000 in cash and 18,000 shares of stock.
By 1998, Mobile Mini was ready to launch an aggressive bid to grow by external means, especially in the South and on the East Coast.
1998 - Mobile Mini underwent its first acquisitions in Las Vegas and Oklahoma City.
In July 1999, the company entered the Salt Lake City market with the $1.6 million purchase of Mobile Storage Systems, Inc.
Finally, in December 1999, Mobile Mini entered the Knoxville, Tennessee, market by paying $600,000 to acquire Big Orange Trailer Rentals, Inc.
1999: First Canadian branch opens
In May 2000, Mobile Mini entered the Atlanta market by acquiring 700 storage units of Trailer, Etc.
Because Mobile Mini still had in excess of $17 million remaining on its old line, it entered 2000 with $50 million in additional borrowing capacity to fuel its rapid expansion.
Mobile Mini introduced a wood mobile office unit in 2000.
In July 2001, the company completed a major deal, buying the storage container assets of Transport International Pool, which resulted in the addition of five new markets: Baltimore, Richmond, Boston, and Toronto--Mobile Mini's first move beyond the United States.
Also in 2001, Steven Bunger succeeded his father as chairman of the board.
In 2001, the company improved its security locking system, leading to applications for three patents.
In May 2002, the company acquired the storage assets of River-Roads Distributing Co., adding the St Louis market.
Also in 2002, the company established operations in Columbus, Ohio; Little Rock, Arkansas; and Ft.
Another new product was added in 2002, a 10 x 30 foot combination office and storage unit.
2004 - Mobile Mini expanded internationally into the UK with the acquisition of Royal Wolf, making Mobile Mini a global corporation.
2005: WillScot IPO; traded on NASDAQ
2006: Wiron acquisition in Spain
2007: Hawaii Modular Space acquisition
2007: Merger of WillScot and Algeco; return to private company
2008 - Mobile Mini merged with The Mobile Storage Group, making the fleet of units largest in the company's history.
2010: reMod, a greener modular line, is introduced
2013 - CEO and President Erik Olsson was appointed, giving Mobile Mini a new focus for the future along with 6 defining values including: Safety First, Integrity and Transparency, Empowering our People, Driving Results, Continuous Improvement, and Active Community Involvement.
2013: Launched The Essentials line of add-on products and services to make spaces ready to work
In 2014, Evergreen Tank Solutions, Water Movers Inc, and Mobile Mini combined to do business as Mobile Mini Tank + Pump Solutions.
2014: Remote Accommodations established in Canada
2015: Flex, an innovative panelized product, is introduced in the United States
2017 – The company launched MMConnect™, an on-demand customer service portal, as part of its commitment to providing world-class customer service solutions.
2017: Double Eagle acquires WillScot and begins trading on NASDAQ
2018: WillScot acquires ModSpace
2020 – WillScot and Mobile Mini join forces, bringing together the leaders in modular space and portable storage solutions.
