For the most part, I enjoy my coworkers, if not the usuals.
The management and the personal life-work life separation(or lack of).
We get cash tips.
That is a VERY good question. If I had a clean slate I'd do chipotle. The standards are MUCH higher and employees are expected to have a great work ethic. Meanwhile at moes, they're so laid back there are employees that are just there for easy money. Things like safety aren't really enforced by management. Things (at Moe's) like knives bing in the wash sink or knives being used to open cans when there are can openers available. Those things make me think like... "TURN YOUR *** BRAIN ON" and would result in an immediate termination at chipotle. When I was crew at chipotle I loved my job. Great people and good food, while now at Moe's I feel like employees don't care and the management is too lax. The food takes a real hit on taste and quality when cans and pre-prepared food is used. At a crew member level, chipotle was also better because you always knew exactly what you had to do. Moe's is more about finding something to do to avoid being bored. I also don't like the marketing for Moe's. the design is inconsistent, and some of their marketing materials bash chipotle. They say "Why does chipotle charge for chips, ours are free" when in all reality, chipotle chips are better, and made differently. (I'll take a picture of this if you want) My Moe's location makes under $1000 per day in sales, while the Chipotle I used to manage would hit between $8,000-$11,000 per day in sales. Numbers speak for themselves and I don't think Moe's should feel so cocky. That plays into it too, Chipotle was a humble company.
At Moe's? I don't mind at all. Since it's only a second part time job, I get paid 8.75/hr. I was told it'd be minimum wage upon getting hired, which for a second job was ok with me. I got .50 cents extra out of pity from the GM
I actually wasn't looking for it and they weren't hiring for it. Moe's works differently out here. You don't have a location with several managers to take care of staff responsibilities. Here at my Moe's, there is one GM and all the rest are team members. When the GM isn't there, they do whatever they want. GM promotions (at Moes's) aren't promised because since it's a franchise, it's up to the owners to open a new location and place who ever they want in the GM spot. There aren't many locations in my state currently. GM promotions (at Chipotle) are more or less assumed if you meet all of your development goals which are documented.
(depending on individual franchise policy) we don't get in trouble for not yelling it but its basically expected unless we're in the middle of a rush. Believe it or not, I think it works really well and not just for the forever-alones. A lot of people like it and I honestly think we have the best customers. Knowing people who work at similar restaurants (including an ex who works for Chipotle), I think the Moe's atmosphere gives more of a homely feel and people are generally patient and polite.
