Prepares engineering design documents including concept development, feasibility studies, and final construction drawings and specifications
Prepares engineering design by collecting and studying reports, maps, drawings, aerial photographs, and tests on soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and related topographical and geologic data
Assists project manager, or acts as project manager, to prepare/review engineering scopes of work and budgets/estimates for proposals and track budget and schedule status throughout the course of each project. Monitor scope of work and scope changes.

The base salary for this role is competitive and will be determined based on the candidate's experience, education, and skills. The expected range for a qualified candidate with 8+ years of experience is $120,000-$160,000. Additionally, we offer performance-based bonuses to recognize and reward outstanding contributions in each Reporting Center. Job responsibilities vary by groups, and each intern walks away with a unique story to tell.
KPFF San DIego is always on the lookout for motivated and energetic civil interns. We continuously accept applications and review candidates for positions as they become available. We typically hire interns during the summer, and begin reviewing resumes during the spring. Internship opportunities also arise during other times of the year, in which case we will review all applications. Your Opportunity
The role of CivilEngineer is to work independently and as a team member on a wide range of land development projects under the guidance of a Senior Engineer/Project Manager. A CivilEngineer will perform a variety of tasks which may include analysis, calculations, preparation of exhibits, and construction documents. Your Key Responsibilities
- Proficiency in preparing, grading, drainage, wet utility, street improvements, and other civilengineering design documents, as well as hydrology/hydraulic storm water modeling and hydraulic modeling of pipe networks.
- Utilizes technologies in development of three-dimensional models of civil systems and provides markups for juniorengineers/designers.

We are actively looking for a CivilEngineer to join our Walnut Creek or Oakland office. As part of the Civil Group, the CivilEngineer assists in managing projects from design conception through construction close out on a wide variety of project types, primarily waterfront facilities, for both the public and private sector, including port/marina infrastructure and public open space, including associated roadways, amenities, drainage and grading, etc.

Duties and responsibilities:

* Prepares engineering design documents including concept development, feasibility studies, and final construction drawings and specifications
* Prepares engineering design by collecting and studying reports, maps, drawings, aerial photographs, and tests on soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and related topographical and geologic data
* Assists project manager, or acts as project manager, to prepare/review engineering scopes of work and budgets/estimates for proposals and track budget and schedule status throughout the course of each project. Monitor scope of work and scope changes.
* Interface with clients as needed for successful project delivery. Address client requirements and manage client expectations regarding scope, schedule and quality on projects
* Communicate with staff and subconsultants to establish work priorities for projects
* Determines project costs by performing quantity takeoffs and calculating labor, material, and related costs
* Creates feasibility study by analyzing engineering design, conducting environmental impact studies, and assembling data
* Produces engineering documents by developing construction specifications, plans, cost estimates, and schedules
* Is familiar with permitting requirements for San Francisco Bay and northern California regulatory agencies
* Confirms adherence to construction specifications and safety standards by monitoring project progress, performing on-site construction inspection, and verifying construction quantities
* Provides engineering information by answering questions and requests from clients or agencies
* Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; and advising management on needed actions
Supervisory responsibilities:
May oversee project personnel.

Qualifications:
* Bachelor's in CivilEngineering from an accredited university degree program; required
* Master's in CivilEngineering; preferred
* Successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (F.E.) exam or Engineer-in-Training Certification; required
* Professional Engineer (P.E.) license; preferred
* 6 - 10 years of experience in general civilengineering
* Competence in general civilengineering design is required including roadway, paving, grading, drainage, H&H, water and sanitary sewer
* Ability to plan, schedule work and complete work assignments within established budgets and timelines
* Software Proficiency
* AutoCAD
* Civil3D
* Microsoft Word and Excel
* Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation)
* Availability and willingness to travel

Base salary range:
$105,000 to $130,000 based on years of experience, level of education obtained, professional registration, and meeting required qualification in job description.
Base salary range only applicable for candidates who will be hired and working in the California markets.
Physical requirements:
Majority of work is office based. Some site visits may be required which may necessitate navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment.
