1986

The building was dedicated in October 1986 and admitted its first patients that same month.

1990

In 1990, the acquisition of the Research Center building across from the Cancer Center enhanced the recruitment of scientists, clinicians, and support staff, and expanded Moffitt's vision beyond the original structure.

1995

The Florida Legislature allocated $12 million for renovation and equipment for this 100,000-square-foot (9,300 m) structure, and the Moffitt Research Center became fully operational in 1995.

1999

In 1999, 48,000 square feet (4,500 m) of basic research lab space was added to the Moffitt Research Center at a cost of $11 million to house the growing need for additional scientists.

2004

2004 Moffitt forms the Board of Advisors, chaired by veteran ABC newsman and melanoma survivor Sam Donaldson.

2007

2007 Moffitt breaks ground for construction of the 100,000 square-foot facility that will house M2Gen, Moffitt’s wholly owned, for-profit biotechnology subsidiary.

2008

2008 Robert Rothman is appointed as the next chairman of the Moffitt Cancer Center Board of Directors.

2009

2009 Moffitt opens the Faculty Office Building, home to a new radiation oncology center, clinical lab space, 36-bed bone marrow transplant unit, and additional parking and office space.

2010

2010 Bob Griese named chairman of the Board of Advisors; Sam Donaldson, immediate past chairman, remains on the Board as Chair Emeritus.

2011

2011 Moffitt Cancer Center at International Plaza opens near Tampa International Airport.

2013

2013 Construction begins on a state-of-the-art outpatient facility at the McKinley campus less than a mile from Moffitt's Magnolia campus at the University of South Florida.

2015

2015 The Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation Outpatient Center, a six-story, state-of-the-art outpatient facility, opens on the McKinley campus.

2016

2016 United States News & World Report’s annual list of top cancer hospitals ranked Moffitt Cancer Center No.

2017

2017 Moffitt purchases a 21-acre parcel of land across from the McKinley campus to allow for future expansion plans.

2019

2019 Moffitt and AdventHealth announce a partnership to open a new Moffitt outpatient center at AdventHealth Wesley Chapel in Pasco County, as well as a clinical research facility and chemotherapy/immunotherapy infusion program at AdventHealth Celebration.
