The Nurse Manager assumes responsibilities in managing the operation and function of the nursing unit/department. Promotes the delivery of high quality patient care based on utilization of the nursing process and standards. Provides an environment conducive to staff growth and development. Is accountable for management of human, fiscal, and other nursing resources. Supports the values and goals of the Department of Nursing and the hospital. Works under the general direction of a Director or Senior Manager.
Core Job Responsibilities
Manage, supervise and coordinate the delivery of optimal patient care.
Accountable for the effective and efficient operation of the unit and staff including ensuring that orders, treatments and plans of care are being carried out in a manner supportive of patient care and recovery.
Ensure unit compliance with clinical patient care standards and regulations.
Coordinate the development, implementation and evaluation of policies and procedures designed to improve operational efficiency.
Implement the clinical area's strategic and operational plans.
Ensure staffing and scheduling supports efficient, high quality and cost effective patient care.
Deliver a professional practice model that encourages staff participation in the development of clinical standards that is collaborative, collegial and utilizes current trends and data in professional practice.
Consult and coordinate with other departments to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to care.
Rounds on patients with staff routinely. Prioritizes staffnurse patient rounding accompanied by attending/consulting physicians.
Lead or participate in change of shift/morning and discharge planning meetings.
Serve as a clinical resource, professional role model and mentor to staff. Serve as a change agent to facilitate communication and transition. Promote customer service in all interactions.
In partnership with leadership and Human Resources, make decisions or recommendations related to performance management, hiring, transfers, corrective actions, terminations, etc. Resolve staff issues and grievances in a fair, timely and consistent manner.
Ensure documentation of patient care is complete and accurate.
Lead safety and performance improvement activities.
Ensure timely, complete and positive resolution to customer complaints.
Evaluate staff clinical competencies. Develop programs that foster continued clinical development to positively impact patient care and career satisfaction of staff.
Monitor budgets and expenses and make modifications when appropriate.
Ensure the availability of supplies and equipment.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience Requirements
REQUIRED:
BSN
3 years of nursing experience.
Prior charge or supervisory experience.
Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and competency in clinical areas.
Proven ability to lead, guide and motivate staff.
Proficient with EMR.
PREFERRED:
Experience in medical/surgical, nursing home or related specialty.
Proficient with Epic EMR.
Licensure/Certification Requirements
REQUIRED:
Registered Nurse licensure in NYS.
Current CPR certification.
PREFERRED:
Certification in applicable area of specialization.

* Follow all company, state, and federal policies, procedures and protocols for sexual assault exams, including the National Protocol for Sexual Assault Medical Forensic Examinations Adults/Adolescents.
* Participate in ongoing quality improvement and evaluation processes with the TeleSAFE team.
* Maintain contact information for at least three years after contract ends for any reason, in order to facilitate testimony or other case follow up that may be legally required.
* Collaborative meetings and professional development.
* Complete a multidisciplinary clinical/operational/technical training with SPHP and complete any necessary onboarding and/or continuing education required by SPHP.
* Complete 5 hours of continuing education annually on sexual assault and forensic examination best practices.

*Daily Responsibilities: *
Collaborate with Manager to ensure that the team is working collectively for best patient outcomes, including monitoring clinical workflow issues such as:
Communicate with clinical team members to ensure that patient flow is efficient, and any issues with patient experience are addressed.
Monitor Clinical Inbox for aging cases to ensure staff completion in a timely manner.
Monitor open encounters and follow up with responsible team member for processing.
Ensure clinical staff are monitoring incoming voicemail and patient cases to provide appropriate response within a timely manner.
Ensure that fridge temperatures are checked for temperature variances.
Maintain and Monitor all emergency equipment and supplies.
Ensure huddle of the clinical team is carried out per office routine.
Ensure that applicable Point of Care Testing (POCT) quality controls (QC's) are run on day of service and are within appropriate range.
Work with care team members to follow up on quality metrics, hospitalization, and ER utilization where appropriate.
Monitor office staff to ensure HIPPA compliance in office setting
Monitor infection control practices performed by office staff.
Troubleshoot clinical office equipment and follow up as needed for repairs
Provide clinical education to all clinical colleagues to support new initiatives and uphold clinical standards.
Identify and recognize exceptional clinical performance, and encourage growth including mentorship program.
*Weekly Responsibilities: *
Download Data loggers for refrigerator / freezer temps, print and added to the binder with monthly temp logs
Site walkthrough for regulatory issues (stock, expiration, compliance) - this is ongoing
Monitor biohazard disposal and maintenance
Monitor exam rooms for proper stocking of supplies and other materials needed for patient care
Ensure all workstations and patient care areas are clean and free from clutter
Photocopy and send all POCT QC logs to the point of care testing department. Hard copies kept in office for reference as needed.
Inspection of below areas to ensure no expired supplies / medications are present:
All exam rooms
Clean supply room
Hallway (soap, sanitizer)
Lab area
Medication room
Nurses station
Fridge Thermometers
Control Solutions
Work with office manager, staff , and informatics to ensure understanding of quality metrics including reporting
*Annual Responsibilities: *
Ensure that Biomed Inspection occurs on all medical equipment and inspection stickers are in place (scales, EKG machines, POCT equipment, AED, etc.)

Provide on-call response to victims of crime throughout St Peter's Health Partners Emergency Departments and inpatient units as needed (Samaritan Hospital, Albany Memorial, and St. Peter's Hospital). The Forensic Nurse Examiner is SANE trained and required to take both the adult/adolescent and pediatric SANE training courses. Examiners are educated, trained, and knowledgeable in the care of those who report:

* Neglect/mistreatment

*Responsibilities:*
* Provide a minimum of 48 hours of on-call time per month (12-hour shifts)

* Completes both adult/adolescent SANE training and pediatric SANE training classes
* Nurses without prior adult/adolescent SANE certification may take the course offered through SPHP FNE program
* Options for pediatric SANE training vary, will discuss at interview
* Provide forensic examination and evidence collection as needed
* Testify if subpoenaed
* Communicate with multidisciplinary response team
* Provides 1:1 individualized care adhering to strict confidentiality
* Functions as a mandated reporter

* Nurses commit to a minimum of 48, 72 or 96+ hours of on-call time per month, consisting of of 12-hour shifts.

* Examiners are paid an on-call hourly rate and a flat rate per patient seen (ranging from $250-$625 per patient. Based on a tiered structure which increases with higher monthly hour commitments). The RNII hourly pay rate is not used when called in seeing a patient; the identified rate is used in specific instances including but not limited to: Healthstream trainings, in-services, staff meetings, trial prep/testifying, etc.

* Current RN License in State of New York
* Minimum of 1 year of experience working as a RN (bedside ACUTE 1yr exp importantly preferred)
