About the Role
The Applications Engineer/ CNC Programmer is responsible for providing hands-on support on the manufacturing floor to develop new processes, improve existing protocols, train and mentor machinists, and help find solutions to critical manufacturing issues. The role will be creating programs and or modifying existing programs as needed to establish setup processes for the CNC Mill, Turn, or Grinding departments. Responsibilities
Applications Engineer/ CNC Programmer
Analyzes and translates drawings and specifications of jobs to coordinate set-ups and operations in order to meet manufacturing and production.
Determines best-practice processes for various machining operations and designates the proper tooling to ensure quality and cost-effective product delivery.
Create tooling paths using CAD/CAM software and properly select the cutting tools that will be needed to generate code for various 3, 4, 5 multi-axis work for milling, turning, and grinding operations.
Verify tool path in Vericut Software.
Produce setup descriptions and tool lists for machinists.
Documents and establishes standards to incorporate engineering changes and improvements.
Provide training resources and training instructions of setup procedures and machining processes for machinists.
Participate in ongoing conversations with engineers, supervisors, and machinists to resolve any issues related to processes, quality, part completion, and customer satisfaction to aid in continuous improvement to eliminate operating problems, increase productivity, and improve product quality.
Participate in the conception and design of complex work-holding/fixtures/gages.
Work with tooling vendors to evaluate and obtain the best cutting tool technologies for high-temperature superalloys commonly used in the Gas Turbine Industry.
Develop prototypes and test new programs/methods working in a hands-on environment with shop floor personnel to gain feedback on potential improvements.
Assists Quality Department in identifying and correcting programming issues that led to non-conformances.
Provides time studies, router, and job cost review to ensure standards are up to date and being met.
Create and or maintain documentation of all types as required.
Follow work instructions, procedures, safety, and company policies as given.
Qualifications
Applications Engineer/ CNC Programmer
3 + years of Machine Shop experience required - CNC Mill, Lathe, and or Grind.
3+ years as a CNC Programmer. A MUST HAVE
Siemens NX experience is required. A MUST HAVE
FANUC and Okuma CNC Controls experience preferred.
VERICUT software experience preferred.
Must be well-versed in various cutting tools for super alloys.
Proficiency in the use of CAD/CAM, word processing, and spreadsheet software.

Key job responsibilities
Plan, layout, construct, maintain, alter, and repair complicated multi-station progressive, single purpose blanking, piercing and forming dies, as well as a variety of drills, holding and clamping fixtures.
Design dies and make or direct the making of detailed drawings.
Work from drawings, sketches, samples, written and verbal instructions.
Visualize finished job, make necessary mathematical calculations, select allowances for fitting and finishing.
Plan, layout, and perform intricate machining operations on tool room equipment involving exacting setups and adjustments to maintain very close tolerances and skilled bench and hand operations. Experience with CNC equipment is beneficial.
Determine repairs required on dies returned to tool room.
Perform emergency repairs to dies in the press department.
Perform any variety of die grinding, shimming, replacement of progressive die components.
Make up repair parts or machined items for special orders.
Try out dies in tool room press, suggest changes to improve operation or reduce maintenance time, observe operation in production and diagnose and correct trouble.
Prepare complex print programs utilizing higher levels of math and or utilizing a computer programming language.
Instruct other employees and assist in overcoming difficulties. Aid in setting up any plant equipment as needed.
Report faulty equipment, defective material and unusual conditions to supervisor.
Observe all prescribed safety rules and regulations and maintain work area in a neat and orderly condition.

Qualifications and Experience
High School diploma or equivalent.
Journeyman's card or equivalent years of experience in the tool and die trade is required
Open to those with a minimum of 3 years of experience.
Wire EDM experience preferred.
Strong troubleshooting skills necessary, with the ability to make informed decisions.
Good organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
Ability to work in a fast-paced; multi-tasking environment and meet operational deadlines.
Must be self-motivated, safety and quality conscious, and work efficiently with minimal supervision.

Machine builders assemble machinery based on blueprints and schematics using hand and power tools.
Shift Details:
First shift hours: 6:45 am to 3:15 pm
Overtime: Based on business needs, paid for time worked over 40 hours per week
Payroll: Paid weekly each Friday
Rate of pay: Based on prior work experience and schooling
Travel: Some limited travel may be expected to service or set up machines

Essential Functions:
Read blueprints and schematics to identify proper parts
Stand, sit, and climb in and around the machine to assemble it
Cut and prepare belts, chains, and hydraulic hoses
Identify and install correct parts in or under the frame, pumps, valves, manifolds, fittings (air or hydraulic), measuring, making, and installing hoses
Identify and assemble drive components, including mounting motors and couplings to gearboxes and mounting in a frame
Climb in and out or under a frame multiple times while bending and stooping during the assembly process
Assemble the installation of rolls, gears, electrical panels, and associated parts, dragging, threading, breaking, and connecting all items to the stands
Completely assemble, troubleshoot, and test machines
Provide service, setup, and startup functions at customer job sites
Some limited travel expected with a shift differential of 15% for service travel, including portal-to-portal hours and paid expenses
Qualifications:
Lift a maximum of 25 pounds
Ability to read blueprints
Use and read tape measures, torque wrenches, and measuring instruments
Operate a fork truck and overhead crane
Adapt methods and ideas for continuous improvement
Good verbal and written communication skills
Valid drivers license and background allowing for domestic and occasional international service travel (Canada and Mexico)
Education and Experience Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent
