Reporting to the Program Director, Liberty Partnerships Program School Based Tutors are responsible for supporting On-Site Advisors with after school tutoring one to two days per week at their assigned school. Instructors will be responsible for working with participants in LPP in specific areas of study, completing assignments, and working on large concepts the student is struggling with grasping. Instructors must have the ability to comprehend and explain educational materials and, assist with student learning, as appropriate. Classroom management skills are needed along with the ability to interact positively with secondary school participants. They will be responsible for the general safety and development, growth, and skill achievement of participants. The successful candidate will bring a passion for teaching and a desire to support and mentor participants as they pursue high school completion and/or moving to the next grade level.

The Peer Tutor position is open to current OCC students. The main function of a tutor is to help students improve their academic performance. Peer tutors help other students understand key concepts in their coursework during individual or group tutoring sessions. The Learning Commons is seeking Chemistry Tutor to support student learning and success. The Chemistry Tutor will assist students across a range of courses, including basic chemistry for non-science majors and general chemistry for STEM majors. Tutors help students strengthen their understanding of core concepts, build problem-solving skills, and develop effective study strategies.
The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in Chemistry, is enthusiastic about tutoring and learning, and is comfortable working with students who have diverse academic backgrounds and levels of preparation. Candidates should also be able to adapt their instructional approach to meet individual student needs and foster an encouraging, student-centered learning environment.
Key responsibilities for this position include:
* Uses probing questions, active listening, and supported inquiry to help students develop and strengthen their ideas;
* Engages students in active learning practices;
* Discusses course material to help students gain fluency and confidence in critical thinking;
* Assists students in developing effective study strategies;
* Conducts weekly group study sessions to reinforce course content;
* Provides encouragement to support student retention and completion;
* Maintains accurate records and monitor sign-in stations;
* Refers students to instructors and specialized services such as counseling and advisement as appropriate;
* Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of the Learning Commons.
Work Schedule: Weekdays, between 11:00am - 5:00pm
Hours per week: Up to 20
This is an academic-year position, working during the Fall and Spring semesters.
Qualifications:

* Minimum of an Associate degree in Chemistry or a related field, along with prior tutoring or teaching experience
* Effective communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience tutoring at the community college level

The P/T Peer Tutor will provide academic assistance to students. Academic interventions can include individual tutoring, group tutoring, homework assistance and exam reviews. Requirements:
