Under the direction of the Chief Technologist, the CT Technician performs necessary sophisticated imaging studies at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. Performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgment, with ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for imaging diagnosis. Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required. Provides leadership role for staff technologists. Assigns work to staff technologist and is generally responsible for traffic control in technical area.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Patient and Room Preparation: This task includes a) entering patient data into Epic and other appropriate computer systems as necessary. b) Placing the patient on the procedure table in the correct position for the procedure to be performed. c) Obtain appropriate scout film for procedure. d) Appropriate positioning of monitors, foot switches, table controls and lighting for procedure to be performed.
Obtain cut film and digital images: This task includes the proper setting of exposures factors and imaging equipment to obtain high quality images for diagnosis by the radiologist.
Direct involvement during procedure: This task involves a) the assistance at the side of the interventional radiologist handling sterile equipment as needed. b) Constant attention to the progression of the procedure while in the control room, monitoring exposure factors, fluoro time, etc. c) Involved with operating injector when necessary.
Maintain adherence to imaging workflow in IDXRad and G.E. Centricity (PACS). This includes tracking exams in IDXRad throughout all steps in the process. Also, verifying images in PACS to ensure the patient, exam type, labeling and orientation are correct.
Photographing and processing of images: This task includes photographing and labeling digital images, processing and displaying final images on viewing machines for radiologist interpretation.
Maintain all necessary records of films, fluoro time, injections, etc.
Observe all rules and regulations regarding radiation safety for patients and staff.
Train other associates and students in CAT Scan or MRI procedures.
Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of assigned area.
Perform duties of a 5T and/or 4T technologist as needed.
Perform other related assigned tasks.
Establish and confirms vascular access and injects contrast according to protocol
Appropriate history and per-procedural screening to assess patient's risk factor to adverse events, contra-indications to contrast media administration, examination preparation.
Establish and confirms vascular access according to departmental protocol. Assures adequate access is ascertained prior to contrast media injection. Verifies that the catheter is appropriate for the injection, assessing the access to back-flow of blood, saline flush, and/or test injection with a power or manual injector.
Determine signs and symptoms of and average adverse event and monitor the patient for the development of such signs and symptoms.
Immediate notification to supervising physician of any reactions or medical events.
Review blood work to determine risk factors.
REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Satisfactory completion of a formal radiologic technology training in CT and meets the requirements for certification by the ARRT.
Licensed & Injection Certified by the State of New York and ARRT.
Ability to use Special Procedure/Angiographic Systems, Radiographic exposure equipment, PACS - General Electric Centricity, Epic tracking equipment.
Verbal ability to understand oral and written instructions stated in radiologic and medical terms and to exchange information with patients and hospital staff.
Spatial perception to visualize inner structures of the human body in relation to x-ray source and receptor in order to obtain radiographic and digital images of diagnostic value.
Knowledge of principles and procedures of angiographic and interventional radiological examinations.
Trained in the use of immobilizing techniques and devices for neonates, infants and children. Also, trained in management of elderly patients undergoing radiographic examinations.

Job Overview
This position is responsible for respiratory care for patients of all age groups, who are diagnosed with cardio-pulmonary dysfunction. Sets up various types of equipment to administer prescribed doses of medicinal gases and aerosolized drugs. Administers all types of respiratory therapy treatments including, oxygen delivery, mechanical ventilator management, diagnostic procedures (e.g., blood gas sampling and analysis, pulse oximetry, BCLS, function and troubleshooting of respiratory therapy equipment). Works cooperatively within department and other services to create a system of quality health care.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Associate's degree from an accredited Respiratory Care program.
2. Licensed by the state of Massachusetts to provide respiratory care.
3. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT)
4. One (1) year of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.

Duties and Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive list. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
1. Initiates patients on invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation; routinely checks and maintains proper function of ventilator in conjunction with the physician order.
2. Abides with infection control guideline for invasive and non-invasive equipment per departmental policy. Changes and adjusts ventilator parameters based on clinical assessment and blood gas analysis in accordance with physician orders.
3. Weans patients from mechanical ventilation and other therapies through patient assessment and adjusting parameters within prescribed protocols.
4. Administer inhaled medications in accordance with institutional guidelines derived from the department of respiratory care and pharmacy.
5. Administers oxygen using low flow, high flow, open and closed circuits.
6. Embodies patient and family centered care. Explains procedures to patients and family.
8. Administers Positive Pressure Breathing, (e.g. CPAP or BiPAP), which consists of the application of positive pressure to the upper airway to promote better lung inflation and aerosol distribution.
10. Provides in-house transport of mechanically ventilated and other high-risk patients.
11. Provides non-traditional therapies, e.g. Veletri administration, as ordered.
12. Provides resuscitation and support services at all high-risk deliveries.
13. Monitors effectiveness of therapy using non-invasive techniques such as pulse oximetry, end tidal CO2 in addition to invasive techniques such as arterial blood gas sampling.
16 Assists in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation as part of Code Team primarily providing airway management and manual resuscitation.
17. Documents therapy, patient assessment, and interventions performed and test results in the progress notes of the medical record in a concise, accurate, and thorough manner.

Job Description
This position is responsible for respiratory care for patients of all age groups, who are diagnosed with cardio-pulmonary dysfunction. Services are provided throughout the Tufts Medical Center are complex. This includes the ICUs, in-patient rooms, the Emergency Room, and outpatient clinics. A request for service originates from the medical staff of Tufts Medical Center. It may be written or verbal and can be communicated to the therapist by direct telephone conversation and/or beeper page. The patient's nurse or unit secretary conveys the order.
All patients are assessed for their needs initially and on an on-going basis until no longer required. Documentation of services provided is recorded in the Respiratory Therapy Progress Notes section located on the department flow sheet. A copy of this document is filed in the patient Medical Record.
A list of the specific practices available by this department is noted below. A Respiratory Therapist is under the direction of the Director and Assistant Director of Respiratory Care. Patient services are available 24 hours/day, 365 days/year. Services are provided in accordance to policies and procedures agreed upon by the Medical Directors of the department. Clinical Practice Guidelines have and continue to evolve as the framework of clinical respiratory care practice. These practices are well referenced and sponsored by the American Association for Respiratory Care.

Provides resuscitation and support services at all high-risk deliveries.
Monitors effectiveness of therapy using non-invasive techniques such as pulse oximetry, end tidal CO2 and transcutaneous PO2/PCO2, in addition to invasive techniques such as arterial blood gas sampling.
Analyzes inspired oxygen concentration using various oxygen analyzers.
Calibrates monitors and maintains Transcutaneous Oxygen Monitors, End Tidal CO2 and pulse Oximetry monitors.

Qualifications
JOB KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Ability to walk and stand for approximately 90% of the time.
Ability to transport respiratory therapy equipment (up to 100 lbs.) using carts or wheels on the equipment to and from patient areas.
One needs to demonstrate the ability to communicate with and assess the patient needs of different age populations to provide the necessary care. This will be demonstrated by supervisory review of Daily Shift Notes documented in all areas of clinical practice. Skills will be rated as part of your Performance Appraisal.
Ability to perform all required duties under emergency and extreme stress situations.
When cross-trained to perform neonatal and pediatric services, one is expected to acquire and maintain NRP and PALS certification.
Demonstration of competency is required on an annual basis. This will include computer based training and evaluation in adult, pediatric and neonatal mechanical ventilators.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree level in health profession, science or equivalent is preferred.
Associates degree in Respiratory Therapy is required.
Must possess the RRT credential.
Knowledge of medical terminology, physiology of the cardiopulmonary system and respiratory therapy science.
EXPERIENCE:
One to two years on the job experience in acute and critical care.
An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements

12. Stock rooms, request stock to be ordered when necessary. Tidies control rooms. Keeps all work area clean and functional.

Physical Requirements:

Key Responsibilities:
Administer respiratory care and assisted ventilation to infants and children with acute and chronic disease states in all areas of the hospital, following prescribed treatment.
Apply and monitor mechanical ventilation.
Provide respiratory therapy in critical care, inpatient, outpatient, and emergency settings.
Provide patient care in assigned clinical area and complete associated duties.
Communicate with care team, patients and their family members, and co-workers.
Participate in professional development and opportunities for advancement within departmental career ladder, including ECMO specialist positions.
Qualifications:
Associate of Science Degree in Respiratory Therapy required; graduates of a BS Degree Respiratory Therapy program preferred.
One or more years of recent Respiratory Therapist experience in a Tertiary Hospital preferred; recent graduates of an AS or BS Degree Respiratory Therapy program are also encouraged to apply.
Credentialed by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist. Licensed by the State of Massachusetts.
NICU and PICU experience preferred. NPS, PALS, NRP, and ACLS preferred.
The posted pay range is Boston Children's reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.

The Work :

Conducts patient assessment, treatment planning, therapeutic interventions analysis and reporting of clinical response
Evaluates appropriateness of medical orders, transporting patients requiring mechanical ventilation or airway protection and assuring safe operations of devices in Xray, CT and MRI
Maintains proficiency in the application of mechanical ventilation modalities, Non-Invasive Positive Pressure Ventilation, Continuous Positive Airway Pressure and Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure
To be successful in this role, you will need to be able to work effectively and collaboratively with nursing, physicians and other team members. This position requires strong communication and organizational skills so you can build patient rapport easily.
