Montessori Center School company history timeline

1971

In 1971 the Foundation for Child Development was created as a non-profit organization to assist Montessori schools, child-care centers, and teacher education programs.

1973

In 1973 HMC received approval from the American Montessori Society (AMS) and offered the first early childhood course.

1974

In 1974 with authorization by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), the real growth began.

1976

Montessori Center of Our Lady, (MCOL), first opened its doors in 1976 with Sister Mary Paulita Bikowski, CSSF, as Head of School.

1985

The Montessori Center School, Inc., was established in 1985 to complement the work of the AMI-affiliated teacher training institute of Arizona, Montessori Education Center.

2000

Classes started at this site in early 2000.

2014

In the fall of 2014, The New School entered its next phase of expansion as it re-launched its Montessori Adolescent Program.

2018

Day One Academies, an initiative launched in 2018 to provide $1 billion in funding for full-scholarship Montessori-inspired preschools for low-income families, have drawn new attention to the Method.

2019

In May of 2019 the school purchased two adjacent land parcels bringing the total area of the property to 11 acres.

2020

In November 2020, MCOL opened its Young Children’s Community (Toddler) Classroom for children ages 18 – 36 months.

2021

In 2021 Houston Montessori Center became a world citizen international peace site in honor in celebration of its 50th year anniversary.
