Montgomery Community College company history timeline

1968

Adult Basic Education and adult high school diploma programs began in October 1968.

1969

The institution’s first students were graduated in June 1969.

1971

On June 3, 1971, the State Board of Education approved Montgomery Technical Institute as a charter technical institution, effective July 1971.

1975

In October 1975, the citizens of Montgomery County passed a bond issue authorizing the construction of a new campus of 64,000 square feet of space on a 149 acre tract of land.

2000

H. Councill Trenholm State Technical College was created through the consolidation of John M. Patterson State Technical College and H. Councill Trenholm State Technical College in April 2000.

2000 In partnership with University System of Maryland, Montgomery College helps to launch "The Universities at Shady Grove," offering upper-level courses for transferring Montgomery College students.

2002

Both institutions were accredited by the Council on Occupational Education, which granted approval for the merger in March 2002.

2014

In December 2014, Trenholm State was granted initial accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award associate degrees.

2015

In May 2015, H. Councill Trenholm State Technical College officially became H. Councill Trenholm State Community College.

2021

On October 28, 2021, Montgomery College held a ceremony formally dedicating The Long Nguyen and Kimmy Duong Student Service Center.

2022

On February 9, 2022, in celebration of the college’s 75 years, a diverse panel of Montgomery College alumni told their MC stories about learning, inclusion, equity and building careers and composing lives in Montgomery County.
