Montgomery County Schools company history timeline
Troy, North Carolina In 1846, Angus McCaskill donated fifty acres of Montgomery County land to layout the foundation for Troy, North Carolina.
The town was named for John B. Troy, a local attorney, and it was officially incorporated in 1852.
In 1925 the county consolidated high schools and built a new school located on the same site as our current elementary school.
The circle drive currently used for buses at Star Elementary was the original circle drive laid out for the consolidated high school in 1925.
A lecture and PowerPoint presentation focusing on a now a well-known hotel company, Marriott International, which actually started as an A&W Root Beer stand in Washington, D.C. in 1927.
To pay tribute to Star High school the old rail road clock which once hung in the high school, gifted by the class of 1929, was installed in the office of Star Elementary.
Highlights from the history of the company and its growth, including its move to Bethesda in 1955, will be featured.
In June 1968, a building on Page Street in Troy was occupied as a temporary location of Montgomery Technical Institute.
Adult Basic Education and adult high school diploma programs began in October 1968.
The institution’s first students were graduated in June 1969.
In October 1975, the citizens of Montgomery County passed a bond issue authorizing the construction of a new campus of 64,000 square feet of space on a 149 acre tract of land.
Students in kindergarten through second grade stayed at Troy Elementary School while students in grades third through fifth moved to the newly created Page Street Elementary School (Heritage, 1981).
March 14, 1995: In the beginning there was a DEC Alpha server running the Unix operating system and the Netscape web server.
David Kreisberg, with the help of a small group of brilliant Blair High School students, brought the server to life and created the first web pages in March, 1995.
Page Street Elementary Page Street Elementary School opened its doors in 2001.
The group was not an official entity until 2000 when it became the Web Services Team, and then Web Services. It was merged into the Public Information Office in 2008.

Founded in 2017, Montgomery County Early College (MCEC) is located on the campus of Montgomery Community College (MCC). MCEC is a non-traditional public high school that is part of the North Carolina Cooperative Innovative High Schools Program.
In 2018 MCEC ranked in the top 119 schools in North Carolina.
Class of 2019 received more than $393 million in college scholarships
MCEC’s first graduating class crossed the stage in 2020.
