Otherwise, demonstrated ability to understand and apply all verbal, written and computer work instructions or training in English, and demonstrated ability to perform simple addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. * At least 5 years experience in machinist as a primary job * Experience operating hand drills, back spot facer, parts cleaner, micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, bore gages, air gages, precision pins, height gages, and hand tools. As a Machinist IV, you will: * Set up and operate manual machines and CNC controlled machines within assigned work area, including load and unload fixtures and parts, preset cutting tools, dial in fixture and adjust machine offsets to achieve acceptable part. * Perform associated operations or tasks independently using other types of machines or equipment with minimum supervision. * Troubleshoot problems that arise during set up and production runs, making necessary machine and tooling adjustments, evaluate alternatives, implement corrective action or cost-effective solutions to achieve quality standards. * Inspect and ensure part quality by using assorted inspection equipment and document discrepant hardware. * Ensure paperwork requirements are fulfilled. * Read and interpret blueprints, sketch sheets, and schedule requirements, and understand machine shop practices, terminology, and basic shop math including decimal fractions, ratio, rate, percent, and bar graphs. * Communicate effectively and maintain relationships with other shifts, Production Engineering, and Quality to ensure smooth transition. * Receive guidance from supervision, meet deadlines and schedule, safety practices, company procedures. * Perform other duties such as operate overhead crane, as assigned, including operator multiple machines at the same time. * May train other employees. This position will be based at Naval Base Ventura County, Point Mugu, CA. As a CNC Machinist and programmer, you must be proficient in CAD/CAM software, either GibbsCam or MasterCam preferred. This position manufactures complex parts from raw stock of different kinds of metals, metal alloys and other materials through the use of machine tools and precision handwork. Most items are complex and will require coordination of the work of several skilled trades in completing specialized work segments. The position will be based at Naval Base Ventura County at Point Mugu, CA. Specific duties include (although others may be added as needed): Program and set up CNC mills and lathes Operate CNC mills, lathes, and band saws Operate conventional equipment such as bench grinders, hand tools, deburr equipment, etc. Read and interpret blueprints for inspecting parts Use measuring instruments such as micrometers, height gauges, calipers, gauge pins and thread gauges Clean, sort and organize Perform minor assembly work including helicoils, nut plates, nuts, bolts, etc. Provide technical guidance to lower-level technicians. Must able to stand/sit for long periods of time , Must be able to work without direct supervision. Requirements Education/Experience/Skills High school diploma or equivalent is required. Summary: Provide manual machinist support of power generation equipment in the Central Repair Shop. Provide mechanical maintenance support to maintain equipment in an electrical generating power plant; may perform Head Mechanic duties during absence of a Head Mechanic. Ability to operate manual lathes to 138” swing, manual boring mills to 17' swing, and large manual horizontal boring machines. Installs, maintains tests, inspects, and repairs generating station equipment such as boilers, turbines, pumps, condensers, heat exchangers, and pressure vessels. Replaces bearings, packing in pumps and valves, shaft seals, sleeves, seats, and other miscellaneous parts used in plant equipment. Works with apprentice mechanics and skill enhancement employees to teach proper, safe use of tools and maintenance procedures. Employee must arrange own transportation to work location and may be reassigned to another location at the Company's discretion.
