Description
A position is available in the laboratory of Renee Read in the Department of Pharmacology and Chemical Biology at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia USA. Successful applicants will join our collaborative translational research team to study the genetics and biology of pediatric and adult glioblastoma.
We are hiring a Research Specialist to work with human organoid models and mouse models of glioblastomas to examine the interactions of tumor stem cells with glia in the neural microenvironment in the brain. Our research program uses a multidisciplinary approach to analyze how developmental cell-signaling pathways interface with mutant variants of receptor tyrosine kinases in glial tumorigenesis, and to understand how cell-cell interactions in the nervous system shape therapeutic responses. Our approach uses several brain tumor model systems, including human patient-derived human glioblastoma stem cells and tissues, novel human organoid tumor models, and genetic animal models of glioblastoma. Members of our lab will have opportunities to learn more about therapeutics, neural stem cell biology, epigenetics, functional genomics, and bioinformatics in team oriented projects that involve collaborations with other neuro-oncology research groups in the Departments of Neurosurgery, Pediatrics, Pathology, and Human Genetics.
Experienced candidates interested in lab management, mouse models of neurologic disease, and neural stem cell biology are preferred. We welcome scientists from diverse backgrounds who seek to enter this dynamic field, and we provide an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
See our webpage ******************** or Twitter account @RRead_Lab for more information and updates.
Applicants interested in translational research and science education are particularly encouraged to apply. This is a great position for someone with cell culture experience or mouse model experience who is seeking a longer term research position related to neuroscience, stem cell biology, and/or cancer biology. Former research specialists from the Read lab have advanced to medical school, graduate school, and research scientist positions in industry.
