Ironworker Apprentice Mortenson is currently seeking an Ironworker Apprentice that will be responsible for learning how to and assisting journeymen ironworkers in marking, positioning, and securing structural steel members to reinforce concrete or building structures.
RESPONSIBILITIES
* Select, clean, and install reinforcing rods as directed by journeymen
* Load, transport, unload, and furnish workers with materials, tools, and equipment
* Clean work area and restock supplies and materials; perform minor maintenance or cleaning of journeymen's tools and equipment
* Assist in lifting, positioning, and securing materials and work pieces during installation; bend steel rods with hand tools or rod-bending machine; supply wire mesh to journeymen
* Measure and mark layout for installation; weld brackets to lintels, sills, columns, and other structural framework; drill holes in metal, concrete, and masonry structures using portable power drills, air-hammer, and/or hand tools; cut, miter, and bevel metal trim and cover plates to size; bolt, clip, weld, or solder ironwork together and to brackets or anchors; verify level and plumbness; bolt newel posts, balusters, and other parts of stairways and stair rails to support; fasten cover plates and mold in place with metal screws
* Receive and offload all major components; install loose components for nacelle, hub, and tower preparation; connect blades to hub; set base and tower sections; manage taglines; assist with main erection crane assembly and teardown
* Climb ladders - average 80m
* Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels
* All other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
* High school diploma or GED
* Enrolled in Apprenticeship Aptitude Program
* Current driver's license
* Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety regulations, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; understand and apply basic mathematical skills (adding, subtracting, division, & multiplication).

Job Responsibilities
Study blueprints, sketches, specifications, submittals and shop drawings for information on type of material required, such as lumber, concrete, rebar or wallboard, etc. Learn the dimensions of structures or items fabricated and the type of finish required.
Select specified type of lumber or other materials under direction from craftspeople, lead carpenters and superintendent.
Learn and use basic measuring tools used by the field craftspeople and identify various widths and lengths of lumber.
Be able to carry out given instructions from craftspeople, lead carpenters and superintendent.
Assist superintendent/lead carpenter with various carpentry tasks.
Ensure workplace safety. Observe proper worksite safety procedures. Utilize tools and equipment in accordance with operating instructions/manuals. Report any safety hazards or potential hazards to supervisor. Notify super/lead of any safety concerns for employees or subcontractors.
Turn signed work process cards in to NEFBA on a weekly basis.
Attend Apprentice classes on a regular/timely basis.

High School diploma or GED
Formal vocational/technical training in GTAW- Gas tungsten arc welding and basic welding processes/procedures
Must be graduating in 2026 from vocational training (May/June graduates preferred)
Must be able to pass a multi-position weld test utilizing the SMAW process
Must be able to pass 2 and 3G plate welding tests
Must be able to perform stick welds on both carbon and stainless-steel plate and pipe
Must be able to utilize large weld rods (3/16" minimum) in multi-positions in an effective and efficient manner
Ability to learn to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and written instructions
Must have a general knowledge of AWS, API, ANSI, and ASME codes and standards
Must be able to troubleshoot and have a strong attention to detail
Must have physical dexterity
Must be able to follow verbal directions
Must be able to read and write in English
Must be willing to travel for long durations
Must be able to pass a background check required to access US military installations
Must have a valid driver's license

Welder - Structural This person must be able to join steel components or metal plates using blueprints, work orders, welding procedures or oral instructions through the application of heat or electric arc-welding equipment. Other duties may be assigned.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Uses Gas-Metal Arc, Flux-Cored Arc, Gas-Tungsten Arc, Submerged Arc or Shielded Metal Arc welding processes.
+ Unites pipes from torch to tanks of oxygen and fuel gas and turns valves to release mixture.
+ Reaching expected temperature, size, and color of flame by burning torch and adjusting flow of gas and air.
+ Preheats work pieces for the preparation of welding or curving, using torch.
+ Fills holes or corrects mistakes in lead pieces and makes bulges thin and curves in metal work pieces.
+ manually apply filler rod to supply weld metal. May clean or degrease weld joint or workplace, using wire brush, portable grinder, or chemical bath.
+ remove excess weld, defective weld material, slag and spatter, using carbon arc gouge, hand scrapper, grinder or power chipper.
+ Climbs up ladders or works on scaffolds to take apart textures.
+ In order to protect the torch chooses place of weld based on type, thickness, area, and expected temperature of metal.
+ Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required for this Position:
**Education** - no minimum education requirements.
**Experience** - 2-4 years of Journeyman level experience.
