It is also called the Vitali Fountain, after the sculptor Giovanni Vitali, who created it in 1835.

1871

Settlers were first drawn to the area in 1871, with abundant grassland and available timber for building.

1875

In 1875, the city’s first store was opened on what is now Main Street.

1877

The area was first named "Hog Heaven" which was later changed to "Palouse Valley." In 1877, Samuel Neff filed for a postal permit under the name of Moscow because the area reminded him of his hometown of Moscow, Pennsylvania.

1885

Moscow grew with the arrival of the railroad in 1885.

1886

The plant was built by the Society of Electric Lighting in 1886 on the Raushskaya Embankment by a decree of Emperor Alexander III. Today SPP-1 provides electricity and heat to the center of Moscow.

1890

Idaho achieved statehood in 1890.

1907

A tram power plant designed for its reliable operation started working in 1907.

1911

Perhaps the most prominent of the city’s hospitals is the Botkinskaya, founded in 1911.

1917

All the property of the joint-stock company, including the Rausch power plant, was nationalized in December 1917.

1918

It has become habitual to compare Moscow with St Petersburg, its rival and the former (1712–1918) capital of Russia.

1931

In 1931, the first heating mains in the capital were laid from the SPP-1-through the Ustinsky and Moskvoretsky Bridges to Sverdlov Square and Neglinka.

1940

The Yauza waterworks facility was built in 1940.

1946

In 1946, the SPP-1 switched to operation on natural gas and became the first station in the domestic energy industry to use it.

1960

Out of the dozens of universities in the city, Moscow State University (1755) and Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (1960; formerly the Patrice Lumumba Peoples’ Friendship University) are the largest and best-known.

2014

In 2014, the property complex was sold to an investor to create a Cultural center.
