Fifty years later, Mott's would explode onto the national scene at the Philadelphia Centennial of 1876, the first major world's fair to be held in the United States.
By 1887, Mott's was importing apples from across the northeast, and exporting ciders, juices, vinegars and apple champagnes to the entire United States.
In 1900, the Mott Company merged with the W.B. Duffy Cider Company.
Pratt-Low, founded in 1905, operated as a packer of fruit and vegetables, as well as a national distributor of a line of dietary foods.
In 1914, the two companies consolidated into the Duffy-Mott Company, Inc.
Clapp's Baby Foods was founded in 1921 by Harold Clapp, who launched his business and a new United States industry when his wife fell ill.
Duffy-Mott's decade of diversification began after the company acquired the Standard Apple Products Company and its plant in Hamlin, New York, in 1929.
In 1930, apple sauce was added to the Mott's line, a step that caused exponential growth for the company.
Soon, Clapp began selling his baby food to drugstores, a business he cultivated until 1931, when he sold his company to Johnson & Johnson.
The solution to the problem was entering a non-apple business, a foray the company made by forging an agreement in 1933 with the California Prune and Apricot Growers Association, later to become Sunsweet Growers, Inc.
1933: Duffy-Mott begins producing prune juice.
In 1936, Duffy-Mott started making jellies, a product category that found a receptive audience during the bleak years of the decade.
In 1953, the company acquired Clapp's Baby Foods, giving it an industry pioneer.
1958: Duffy-Mott completes its initial public offering of stock.
In 1960, Duffy-Mott reached an agreement with a West Coast food chain named Thriftimart, Inc. to acquire the processing equipment of the Pratt-Low Preserving Corporation and to lease a 407,000-square-foot plant.
The Cadbury Schweppes purchase ushered in a new age of innovation for the brand, and in 1985, Mott's was the first apple sauce to come in single-serve plastic cups.
Name shortened to Mott's Inc. in 1986.
In 1987, the company purchased the Red Cheek apple juice brand.
In 1989, the company acquired the Garden Cocktail and Zesty Garden Cocktail line from E.D. Smith, Inc., a Canadian-based concern.
1991 Mott's introduced fruit-flavoured apple sauces.
In 1999, Cadbury Schweppes paid $203 million for the brand, giving a portion of the business to Doctor Pepper/Seven Up, Inc., one of its subsidiaries, and giving Mott's responsibility for producing and marketing the shelf-stable portion of the Hawaiian Punch business.
1999: The Hawaiian Punch brand is acquired.
In 2000, Mott’s Fruitsations launched an Unsweetened (no added sugar) platform.
In 2001, for instance, the company paid $128 million for the ReaLemon and ReaLime product lines, the leading lemon and lime juices in North America.
2001: ReaLime and ReaLemon are acquired.
2001 saw the debut of Mott’s Healthy Harvest, an unsweetened applesauce blended with other fruits.
In April 2005, Mott’s introduced Mott’s Plus for Kid’s Health and Mott’s Plus Light.
And in 2007, Mott’s debuted Mott’s for Tots, a great-tasting, prediluted juice drink made of 100% juice and purified water.
Mott’s Plus Sauce, fortified with nutrients such as calcium, antioxidants, and fiber, became widely available in 2008.
In 2010, Mott’s added Mott’s Fruit Snacks to its portfolio.
In 2012, Mott's Fruitsations launched +Veggies which put vegetables undercover inside Mott’s Fruitsations apple sauce with flavours such as +Veggies Peach Apple Carrot, and +Veggies Cherry Berry Carrot.
