Mount Wachusett Community College company history timeline

1963

Gardner, MassachusettsDivision of Continuing Educationhttp://www.mwcc.edu Mount Wachusett Community College was founded in 1963.

1964

Mount Wachusett Community College opened in September of 1964 but it was not located in the spot that it is today.

1965

Things certainly have changed in 50 years…if you commuted to MWCC in 1965 the price of regular gas was $.31 per gallon.

1966

Raymond Coleman – began his career at MWCC in August 1966.

1970

Professor Ronald Burba – has been a member of the faculty since 1970.

Vincent Ialenti – has served the college since 1970 as department chair of the Broadcasting and Telecommunications program and recently as the director of distance learning and as liaison to Mass Colleges Online.

1972

After having no permanent location for the first years of the colleges existence in 1972 construction began on what is known today as the main Mount Wachusett Community College building.

1974

When the new Gardner campus opened in September, 1974, Barry White was at the top of the pop charts with his hit Can’t Get Enough of Your Love, Babe.

1976

The current day theater that is located at the Mount Wachusett Community College Campus was opened in January of 1976

1977

The current day gym complex that is located on the Mount Wachusett Community College Campus was opened in 1977

1982

In 1982 she was appointed director of Theatre at the Mount and since that time has produced over 162 plays and musicals.

1986

Arthur Haley – was the founding president of the college and served for 24 years before his retirement in 1986.

1994

It first offered distance learning courses in 1994.

1997

After graduation, she served as an administrative assistant to the associate dean of Science and Technology for twenty-four years, as a staff assistant to the academic dean for two years and has been the executive assistant to the president since 1997.

2002

On October 5, 2002 at its 40th Anniversary Celebration, Mount Wachusett Community College honored faculty, staff, alumni, and community members who made significant contributions to the life of the college during its first 40 years.
