Movoto makes real estate easy by compiling data for those looking to find or sell a home so they can make informed decisions. The company is ever-changing to provide the most updated information for its customers, that's why the Movoto culture is so collaborative. The employees are always challenging each other to be better versions of themselves.
Diving Into the Values at Movoto
At Movoto, everyone is on the same team. Every teammate is in constant communication from the CEO to customer service. And when it comes to the success of the company, they're all on the same page. That's why employees sometimes stay past 5 p.m. to complete a project.
The teamwork at Movoto is something you won't see at another company. At Movoto one thing is for sure: you get to see the impact you make at the company by bringing forth ideas.
Zippia spoke with former Lead Recruiter Ray Townsend about what makes Movoto's culture so unique.
A Motivated Team
Striving to Reach the End Goal
The work culture at Movoto can be described as motivated. The team members there come in every day expecting to complete projects. They're constantly coming up with and testing new ideas. At Movoto, every idea is a good idea.
One story that really sticks out to Townsend when discussing the culture at Movoto was a hack-a-thon the company held. It was held for a couple of hours on Friday over the course of three weeks. Well, at least it was supposed to only last that long. "It was only supposed to be for a couple of hours, but people ended up staying longer each night coming up with great ideas," Townsend. "It was just a really awesome, fun time."
The hack-a-thon was held to for most everyone in the company to get together and brainstorm new ideas. "Most of the company was engaged in this event," Townsend said. "Even customer service was there coming up with great ideas."
The best part of the hack-a-thon was the unexpected competitive nature of the event. All of the employees identified 3 key areas they wanted to come up with ideas for. Then they separated into three groups. "We joined whichever idea area we wanted to help flush ideas out of," Townsend said.
Open to All Employees
Accessible Higher Management
"I think the thing I appreciate the most about Movoto is the accessibility to higher management," Townsend said. At Movoto, it's easy to approach management with questions, ideas and suggestions. The open company culture makes it easy to see why people love working there.
At any level, you can expect to be heard at Movoto. Even the CEO will stop to chat with you. And that's why they host weekly company lunches. During the lunches, employees have the opportunity to voice concerns to their manager and bond with colleagues. "This openness just creates a good, healthy relationship," Townsend said.
Career Development
Just One of the Perks
While the company is consistently looking for ways to progress forward, it doesn't forget about its employees. Movoto strives to encourage its employees to advance their careers. From hosting webinars to workshops, the employees feel encouraged and supported in their career development. Employees even have the privilege to attend classes and are provided with career resource tools.
But that's not all Movoto offers the employees who work there. A weekend summer retreat is hosted annually for employees to attend together. During the retreat they share accomplishments from that year and what they're looking to improve. The annual trip takes place at Lake Tahoe.
Another annual event takes place at the end of every year. The holiday party is a celebration of the end of the year, but also a kick-off for the next year. They rent out a ballroom for a night of dinner, dancing and giveaways.
Movoto also hosts spontaneous ping-pong tournaments, as well as other game days. And the cherry on top is if any employee, or family of the employee, is buying a house, Movoto provides a rebate that literally saves employees and families thousands of dollars.
