Mozilla company history timeline

2005

The Mozilla Corporation was established in August 2005 as a wholly owned taxable subsidiary that serves the non-profit, public benefit goals of its parent, the Mozilla Foundation, and the vast Mozilla community.

October, 2005 - Firefox surpasses 100 million downloads

2006

February, 2006 - Firefox download site launched at Yahoo! Japan

2008

In June 2008 Firefox 3.0 included a new Web page-rendering engine to improve performance.

2009

Cumulative downloads for the Firefox browser exceeded one billion on July 31, 2009, making it easily the most widely used open-source software in the world.

2010

In 2010 Firefox surpassed Internet Explorer to become the most popular Web browser in Europe—the first time Internet Explorer was not the most-used browser in a major market area.

2011

As of the year 2011, the total revenue generated by the company was $163 million.

2013

Mozilla also celebrated its 15th anniversary in 2013.

2017

As of the year 2017, the company has rebranded its logo from the dinosaur symbol to 'moz://a'. The headquarters of the company is based in 331 East Evelyn Avenue.

2021

As of 2021, Firefox was the fourth most popular browser worldwide, with 3.9 percent of the market, after Chrome (64 percent), Apple’s Safari (19 percent), and Microsoft’s Edge (4.2 percent).
