The Sr MRI Technologist performs magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) diagnostic examinations. Coordinates daily activities and schedules for the MRI service to ensure the effective provision of services. Trains and orients technologists and students to MRI.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Performs duties of a MRI technologist. Positions patients sets image parameters injects contrast and films studies using laser camera.
Reviews and makes recommendations for revision of policies procedures and/or regulations and assists in the updating of department training manual.
Serves as an educational resource for staff instruction. Monitors and trains technologists in proper techniques safety and quality assurance.
Assures proper use of MARS system including registration billing and other patient related functions. Prepares reports and maintains records of exams performed using (MARS). Resolves incomplete lists and ensures proper use of MARS system to include quality assurance and verification of films taken.
Reports equipment in need of repair and/or maintenance and ensures supply levels are properly maintained. Makes recommendations for equipment and supply purchases.
Provides input and recommends personnel actions including performance appraisals merit increases and promotions for assigned personnel.

Primary Duties:
Performs full range of MR imaging procedures promptly on all patient types as specified by the protocol. The ability to perform venipuncture, injection of contrast media, and non-narcotic medication is required for effective diagnostic imaging and scanning. Must adhere to the direction, policy, and procedures as defined by physician modality director.
Strict adherence to research guidelines for studies performed on patients participating in research studies. Adheres to the policies and procedures that apply to the performance of obtaining MR studies and MR guided procedures, including performing correct, exam, including laterality, on the correct patient at the time requested.
Provides basic information to patients and/or families about procedures to be performed and can answer questions if asked. Assists with the upkeep of MR and related equipment, adhering to all related safety requirements and reports needed for equipment repairs. Can execute and enforce MR Safety standards and practices.
Monitors equipment, analyses potential reasons for system malfunction, contacts the Biomedical engineering department and reports malfunction to log a ticket. Ensures timely completion of all exams through tracking, scanning, and other technical workflow as related to Radiology Information System (RIS, Enterprise Radiology Solutions (ERS) and EMR (Electronic Medical Record).
Coordinates and collaborates with Technical Aides to ensure efficient room turnover. Coordinates, communicates, and collaborates with Patient Financial Associates that register radiology exams to minimize delays and potential safety issues for the outpatient population.
Qualifications:
Vocational/Technical Diploma from an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology; competency in didactic coursework and an ARRT-specified list of clinical procedures by completing competency requirements established for the discipline in which they are seeking certification and registration.
ARMRIT (American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists) or ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technology); with advanced certification in MR.
BLS (Basic Life Support).
1-2 years' experience in a hospital setting preferred.

A Day in the Life of a Steering MRI Technologist:
Perform magnetic resonance imaging procedures as prescribed by a physician.
Produce high quality MRI diagnostic images from a remote location with the help of an MRI Tech Aide.
Ensure release of patient with proper follow-up information via the MRI Tech Aide.
Monitor patient's well-being during scans via cameras and through feedback from MRI Tech Aide and recognize patient discomfort or medical problems and take appropriate action.
Recognize emergency situations and direct the MRI Tech Aide in emergency shutdown of gradient and/or main magnetic field (quench) when applicable.
Instruct patients as to the proper physiological requirements for the procedure.

+ Identifies gross pathology in the human body and adjusts T1 and T2 scanning parameters to provide pertinent information for interpretation.
+ Performs Diffusion studies, MR Angiograms, reformats and MIP imaging
+ Uses magnetic resonance and adjusts parameters to minimize exposure to patient and self
+ Follows established protocols and uses scanning techniques to include, window and contrast levels, scanning time sequences, scanning delays, scanning thickness, FOV, scout images, reformatting, images reconstruct and 3-D image reconstruct.
+ Photographs, archives and retrieves images
+ Performs quality control for procedures and equipment. Documents systems failures and variances in the appropriate logbook and arranges for service when necessary
+ Certified to start and remove IV lines for contrast studies per established departmental policy and procedure. Identifies and responds to IV contrast reactions up to and including calling emergency personnel
+ Proficient in the use of an IV Contrast Power Injector
+ Identifies each patient, reviews each patient's requisition and previous studies for consistency
+ (examination ordered/clinical diagnosis), and records pertinent data on MRI requisition at all times
+ Responsible for performing comprehensive screening of patients and other individuals before allowing them to enter the MR system room
+ Reviews each examination for technical accuracy, presents completed examination to radiologist, and communicates pertinent data to persons responsible for the care of the patient following the procedure
+ Identifies anatomical orientation on all required images and ensures proper film identification on all images

Minimum Requirements:

Primary Duties:
