Develops films in automatic processor and ensures films are of acceptable diagnostic quality and completeness. Transfers images from disc or magnetic media to produce transparency. Ensures patients are free of objects that may interfere with the procedure. Transfers, positions, and instructs patients regarding the procedure to obtain and effect the desired radiographic diagnostic results as specified by the physician. Instructs and demonstrates MRI equipment operation, filming, and other technical aspects for professional staff and students. Notifies appropriate personnel of equipment malfunctions and repairs needed. Schedules MRI examinations when needed to ensure smooth flow and optimal utilization of equipment. Operates control console for each patient's scan, including selection of proper imaging techniques; operates various peripheral hardware. Enters patient data at start of examination and monitors data acquisition during procedure. Interviews patient and explains magnetic resonance imaging procedures. Positions patient on examining table following protocols requested by radiologist. Enters data such as patient history, anatomical area to be scanned, orientation specified, and position of entry into the computer. Demonstrates knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy. Monitors patient safety and comfort and views images of area being scanned on video display screen to ensure quality of pictures. Inova Alexandria Hospital is looking for a dedicated MRI Technologist to join the team. This role will be a Full Time Night Shift, Monday - Friday 11:00pm - 7:00am. Job Responsibilities: Communicates effectively with patients to obtain clinical history/informed consent to assist the physician in optimizing the performance and interpretation of the examination. Explains procedure to patients/families and answers any questions to ease anxiety and ensure patient cooperation. Assists the physician in performing a variety of examinations using standard department protocols, isolation precautions and/or sterile technique. Utilizes knowledge of IV's, heparin locks and central line usage as they pertain to Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). Demonstrates patient safety in department by use of side rails, braking mechanisms and patient monitoring. Reports, documents and corrects any adverse, unsafe or unusual conditions. Performs/recognizes the need for routine maintenance of imagers/processors to maintain consistent quality images. Minimum Qualifications: Education: Graduate of an accredited school of radiography or graduate of an accredited school of nuclear medicine with MRI training (must be MRI Registry eligible through ARRT). License: American Registered Radiologic Technologists, or ARMRIT or CAMRT. CNMT certification in lieu of ARRT is also acceptable. Must obtain MRI certification within 12 months of hire. Certification: Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association Experience: Prior experience preferred as Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist and/or MRI Technologist in a hospital/healthcare environment or recent student at Inova Health System.
