Reporting to the Manager of Cancer Care, the Radiation Therapist has a functional reporting to the Radiation Oncology Medical Director, the professional direction of a radiation oncologist, and the Clinical Medical Physicist. The Radiation Therapist performs various radiotherapy treatments and simulations at a technical level requiring minimal supervision of technical detail. o Performs simulation as prescribed by a radiation oncologist. Fabricates individualized immobilization devices.
o Utilizes imaging technologies for the explicit purpose of simulation, treatment planning and treatment delivery as prescribed by a radiation oncologist (e.g., weekly ports, CBCT, kVp and MV imaging, and IGRT.
* Ensures that the medical equipment is regularly maintained and is in excellent working order.
o Performs daily warm-up procedures (simulator / treatment units) and maintains documentation of quality assurance activities, procedures and results in accordance with department standards of work.
o Checks equipment for malfunctions / abnormal quality assurance readings and report any abnormal findings to appropriate personnel (Radiation Oncology Supervisor, Physicist, Administrator or Radiation Oncologist).
Maintains accurate records of each dose including changes in dose, set-up, or other therapy modifications.
Acquires and edits electronic images and sends to oncologist for review.
Simulates patient treatment procedures using CT simulator.
Maintains all records, reports, and patient charts. Completes summary sheets on patient after completion of treatment.
Performs related duties such as arranging patient transportation to and from department, stocks supplies and materials, and relays messages from patients and their families to the nurse or oncologist.
Schedules patient for therapy and assists with other clerical duties such as answering the phone.
Serves as a clinical instructor to radiology students observing therapy and as a clinical educator for students.
Maintains up-to-date knowledge of developments and advances in the field of radiation therapy.
Participates in continuous quality improvement activities for the department.
Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations, the Compliance Accountability Program, Code of Ethics, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior.
Performs job duties and functions within the scope and standards of educational training and licensure.
Discusses various treatment plans with the patient developed in partnership with the clinical oncologist and physicians.

High School graduate and/or GED Equivalent.
Completion of a recognized education program in Diagnostic Radiology.
Two (2) years of experience in a cath lab as a Registered Radiologic Technologist performing diagnostic cardiac catheterization procedures including scrubbing and sterile techniques or performing special (interventional) procedures.
Working knowledge of methods and techniques of cardiac catheterization and interventional cardiology.
Working knowledge of special procedures with emphasis on cardiac, pulmonary, urological anatomy and physiology, ECG rhythms, cardiac hemodynamics, and cardiac medications.
Working knowledge of effective methods and techniques in administering special procedure x-rays, of the hazards involved for patients and operators, and associated precautionary measures.
Ability to maintain harmonious relationships with patients, physicians, other Medical Center staff, and the general public.
Must obtain BLS certificatin upon start of position and must maintain certification per AHA guidelines.
NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATION:
Registration as an Invasive Cardiovascular Technologist by the ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) or CCI (Cardiovascular Credentialing International) as a Registered Cardiovascular Interventional Specialist (RCIS).

Operates computed tomography (CT) scanner to produce cross-sectional radiographs of patient's body for diagnostic purposes by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Always preform a dual patient identity (name and birthdate).
Always maintain a professional attitude when taking on Stats and fitting in a patient when needed.
Administers contrast media orally and/or administering a line for intravenous contrast.
Must be proficient in starting, maintaining and safely administering IV contrast.
Enter data such as type of scan requested, adjust scan data (slice thickness, scan time, and other technical factors into the operator's console.
Position and immobilize the patient on the exam table, using supportive devices to obtain precise patient positioning and follow protocols specified by the Radiologist.
Select the correct CT protocol for scanning the proper anatomic region ordered by the referring physician.
Be able to communicate with the patient both face to face and over the intercom system. Consistently observe the patient through the control room window to ensure patient safety especially when administering IV contrast.
Review all images obtained to ensure image quality and no gross pathology is seen.
Competency in using iStat blood analyzer to obtain creatinine and GFR levels.
Drug/Crash Cart- must be able to identify and know the use of the items in the crash cart and possess the ability to assist the Radiologist and/or nursing staff during a contrast reaction/emergency in an effective manner.
Must be knowledgeable in the fundamentals and comfortable in the everyday use of PACS, RIS, and Management pages and possess the general computer skills required to complete the tasks at hand.
Must have the ability to burn CD's from either the scanner or PACS in both viewer and DICOM format. Plus, as import data from CD's to the scanner.
When possible assist in lift help in other departments.
Will be responsible for obtaining and maintaining all appropriate certifications.
Required to stay current on any and all Continuing Education (ECE's).
Follows all ARRT and State of Michigan guidelines by completing Annual BLS and *OSHA/Blood Borne pathogen certifications, plus all RMI S.O.P. and policies.
