Perform mammography exams and procedures that follow radiological standards in a safe, accurate and timely manner, that meet the American College of Radiology (ACR) and Mammography Quality Standards act (MQSA) standards and allow the radiologist and/or physician to make a radiological diagnosis. Responsible for designated areas and/or procedures as assigned. Work cooperatively within departments and other service lines to create a system of quality health care. Work independently as required. Job Description Minimum Qualifications: 1. Associate degree in Radiology or related field. 2. Radiologic Technologist Certification (ARRT). 3. Our MRI Technologists work with cutting-edge technology, including a new 1.5T scanner, and have a positive impact on patients on a daily basis. Under the supervision of the MRI Manager, the MRI Team Leader and MRI Safety Officer, the technologist performs a variety of routine and advanced MRI procedures in the presence of a strong magnetic field while monitoring and maintaining essential patient care and safety. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Includes preparing patient, positioning, setting imaging parameters, performing computer processing, and displaying images. 2. Performs scheduled quality control procedures on MRI scanners and other related equipment. Records QA results as required. Reports any potential equipment related problems to MRI Management Team, as necessary. 3. Insert IV catheters as needed. 4. Prepares for and performs intravenous injection of MR contrast agents including the use of the MR compatible power injector. Understands and can communicate the possible contraindications as well as monitor for and respond to adverse reactions to MR contrast agents. Records all information regarding contrast injections appropriately. 5. Instructs patients and visitors in MR safety procedures. 6. Ensures adherence to safety practices by all persons entering the MRI area. 7. MRI experience is preferred Required Licenses / Registrations Must be registered or eligible for certification in MRI by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or equivalent (ARMRIT). If not, you must meet and successfully complete either ARRT (MRI) or equivalent certification (ARMRIT) and registration within 6 months of employment. Responsibilities * Adheres to established departmental policies and procedures; fosters communication and collaboration among the clinical, technical and support staff; ensures that business and patient information is properly handled according to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) guidelines. * Maintains and ensures patient, staff and environmental safety; maintains proper infection control; maintains orderliness and cleanliness in the workplace and self; demonstrates an understanding of all MRI safety issues and follows MRI safety procedures to ensure patient safety. * Prior to allowing anyone to enter the MRI exam room, carefully and completely screen all patients and others entering the MRI scan room, for any safety issues or contraindications regarding the specifics of being in a strong magnetic environment. * Ensures that all appropriate regulatory, accreditation, and institutional requirements are met, and participates in departmental and institutional quality assurance/quality improvement (QA/QI) programs. * Communicates relevant information in a compassionate and professional manner to patients undergoing procedures, ensures that all patients have a thorough understanding of the procedures to be performed, assist with various operational duties such as monitoring patient flow while utilizing the scheduling and electronic medical record (EMR) systems. * Under the direction of the MRI Manager/Supervisor, the MRI technologist performs all technical procedures within their respective modality obtaining high quality patient scans; is involved with and performs all technical protocol duties as required for departmental research; establishes intravenous access; administers imaging contrast agents in accordance with applicable regulatory accreditation (e.g., ACR) and as directed by protocol under the supervision of the radiologist; ensures that all imaging systems operate at levels of accepted standards and are properly maintained, and if necessary takes corrective action; performs required quality control on all imaging equipment and devices; performs computer acquisitions and analysis as required; manages imaging datasets (e.g., transfer, archive, and retrieval); maintains all necessary records and reports in a correct, timely, and efficient manner. * Provides training and shares best practices with newly hired staff, peers, and students. * Performs all other duties and responsibilities as directed. Qualifications * Current ARRT (RT-MR) or ARMRIT (RT-MR, ARMRIT) registration at the time of hire or must obtain within 1 year of hire * If no ARRT (RT-MR) certification at the time of hire, a current ARRT Radiography (RT-R) registration and/or current ARRT Nuclear Medicine Technology (RT-N) registration and/or current NMTCB Nuclear Medicine Technology (CNMT) registration is required * Current BLS certification or must obtain an active BLS certification within 90-days of hire.
