Responsibilities Operate a scanner to obtain images used to diagnose and treat of pathologies. Prepare and position patients and selects anatomic and technical parameters accurately to produce cross-sectional images of the body. Perform patient pre-screening, scheduling, and education related to the examination. Enter and monitor patient data, transfer images from disk to magnetic media to produce the transparency, and develop film in an automatic processor. Follow radiation safety procedures and guidelines. Ensure prompt submission of high-quality of all images and documents sent to PACS (image quality, correct lead markers and patient data/history). Ensure equipment is properly functioning. Report potential problems or equipment malfunction to appropriate personnel. Assist in maintaining a clean, and orderly department to include procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, film storage area and any other areas in department. Requirements Licensure / Certification / Registration: BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted. Key Responsibilities: The technologist competently operates magnetic resonance (MR) equipment to perform basic and intermediate diagnostic procedures. These include routine musculoskeletal, neurological and orthopedic imaging, arthrograms, neurological angiography, body imaging, and small joint imaging. The technologist obtains medical history from patients, compares requisitions to physician orders to ensure exam accuracy, and prepares and administers contrast media under the Radiologist's direction. They position patients, select proper scanning factors, adjust factors to obtain appropriate images, and ensure magnet protection and safety in accordance with regulatory agencies. The technologist post-processes images as directed and accurately identifies and labels images with the patient's name, MRU number, and scan location or position. They maintain records in accordance with regulatory requirements, enter patient and study information into the radiology information system, and document billing codes to ensure accurate patient charges. They identify equipment performance issues, perform equipment quality assurance tests and calibration procedures, report malfunctioning equipment, and evaluate new products and equipment. The role also includes performing patient positioning and transport duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling while using proper technique. The technologist must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care, understand growth and development principles across the lifespan, and assess data that reflects the patient's status in order to determine age-specific needs. Care must be provided in accordance with departmental policies and procedures, with additional age-specific details outlined in departmental job standards. Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required: A Registered Technologist (RT) credential issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is required or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT). Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) Education: Advanced training beyond high school is required, including completion of an accredited or approved program in Radiologic Technology. Experience Required: No prior experience is required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: The employee must have knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and magnetic safety, and be competent in IV insertion and venipuncture if required by the facility. Strong communication, interpersonal, and patient-service skills are essential for working effectively with physicians, patients, and other staff members. The individual should be able to work independently and possess intermediate computer skills. Team members are expected to maintain all annual educational requirements for hospital-based certifications such as DNV, CARF, or others, as applicable. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: The position requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, lifting, squatting, bending, twisting, and reaching above the shoulders throughout the workday. The employee must be able to lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist, lift up to 20 lbs overhead, and carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance. Additional requirements include the ability to push or pull with 30 lbs of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs with assistance from another person. The individual may be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation, and magnetic hazards, as well as blood and body fluids; therefore, appropriate personal protective equipment must be worn. Responsibilities: * Administers gadolinium contrast intravenously, screens for allergies and contraindications. * Positions patient on examining table and places coil close to area of interest, follows exam protocols, reviews physician's orders and consults with radiologist on questionable orders/protocols. * Enters data such as anatomical area to be scanned, orientation specified and position of entry into computer. * Communicates with patient before procedure to obtain history, explain risks and what can be expected; communicates during procedure to monitor safety and comfort. * Keys commands to specify MRI scan sequences and adjust parameters and slice positioning appropriate to the exam and patient anatomy. * Alerts patients and staff of danger of wearing or carrying metal near the magnet. * Views images of area being scanned on video display screen to ensure quality of images. * Ensures that patient (staff/visitor), completes the MRI screening form. Reviews written form, discusses verbally with patient for contraindications and signs form. Investigates and clears as safe any potential ferromagnetic foreign objects/implants before exposing the patient to the magnetic field. * Receives and reviews orders, coordinates schedule, prioritizes urgent exams and obtains wet reads. * Maintains and cleans work area and equipment; replenishes supplies as needed. * Adheres to MRI safety guidelines, policies and procedures. Controls and evaluates for safe entry of all persons, objects, supplies and equipment into the MRI environment. * Ensures all exams are ordered correctly in HIS/RIS and charged and tracked accurately. * Initiates service calls for equipment problems.
