Mt. San Jacinto College company history timeline

1962

San Jacinto Community College District was formed in 1962 by a vote of the citizens in Banning, Beaumont, Hemet and San Jacinto.

1963

The college enrolled its first students in the fall of 1963, holding classes in rented facilities.

1965

The San Jacinto Campus opened in 1965 with two buildings and has since grown into a larger, more comprehensive campus serving the local community.

1975

In 1975, the residents of Temecula, Lake Elsinore, Perris and adjacent areas voted to join the Mt.

1978

In 1978, when the District only operated its first campus in San Jacinto, voters passed a $3 million facilities bond.

1990

San Jacinto College opened its Menifee Valley Campus in October 1990.

1993

In the fall of 1993, the Alice P. Cutting Business & Technology Center on the San Jacinto Campus opened to students with new laboratories for Business, Computer Information Systems, Engineering Technologies, Electronics and Photography.

1995

In the fall of 1995, a state-of-the-art music building opened on the San Jacinto Campus.

2002

The construction of two new childcare centers in 2002 paved the way for a major expansion of the Child Development and Teacher Training Center at MSJC.

2004

The university countered the eminent domain action by arguing that MSJC should pay the market value of the land in 2004 when MSJC took possession.

2006

A new learning resource center on this campus opened during the Spring 2006.

2008

San Jacinto College experienced rapid expansion in 2008.

The state approved funding for the project in 2008, but funding was delayed because of California's budget crisis.

2009

The college police chief, Kevin Segawa, was arrested on December 2, 2009 and charged with eight felonies.

2010

By November of 2010, counseling and enrollment services offered at the former San Gorgonio Pass Service Center were moved to the new San Gorgonio Pass Campus located south of Interstate 10.

Funding was appropriated again in 2010 after the state was able to sell bonds.

2011

In January 2011, students began attending classes at the new site.

2012

On February 9, 2012 the MSJC Board of Trustees decided not to renew his contract.

The college opened the new Humanities & Social Sciences building on the Menifee Valley Campus in 2012.

2013

On February 2, 2013, a civil trial against the college began.

2014

Also in November 2014, voters of the District approved Measure AA, a $295 million facilities bond.

In 2014, the college opened its second site in Temecula: the Temecula Higher Education Center.

2015

The college again became the fastest growing of California’s 113-college system when enrollment grew by 11 percent in 2015-16.

2020

The new campus is expected to open in the fall of 2020.
