1898 - Founded as Marion General Hospital.
The name, in honor of Ocala banker T.T. Munroe, who led the effort to raise money to build the hospital, was part of the hospital’s name since the 1920s.
1928 - Renamed Munroe Memorial Hospital in honor of T.T. Munroe, an Ocala banker who led the effort to expand the hospital near its current site.
1980 - Renamed Munroe Regional Medical Center to encompass the hospital's expanded service area beyond Ocala.
In 2006, in an effort to improve flow and aeration of the Cuyahoga River, the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) removed the dam that created the city's namesake falls, accompanied by landscaping and beautification of the river banks.
Heart of Florida Health Center began in 2007 with financial support from Munroe Regional Medical Center, Ocala Regional Medical Center, the Marion County Commissioners, and Department of Health.
In 2008, the building was totally renovated and modernized by the county to provide a pleasant patient atmosphere, primarily funded by the generous donations and in-kind contributions of many local contractors and private individuals.
In 2008, Heart of Florida Health Center was able to accommodate nearly 15,00 patient visits.
In 2009, Heart of Florida Health Center was the status of Federally-Qualified Health Center (FQHC).
2009 - The hospital, owned by Marion County, continues to struggle financially in light of the economic downturn and increases indigent health care costs.
Johnson, who served as CEO of Florida Hospital Carrollwood in Tampa since 2012, before taking the Ocala post, said the immediate goal is to get all of the hospital's systems, including payroll, benefits, billing and contracts, incorporated to their systems.
2014 - Community Health Systems takes over operations of MRMC under a 40-year lease agreement with the Marion County Hospital District.
