When the community’s only hospital burned to the ground in 1915, he offered a cottage at Elmwood and Eleventh Street as a temporary general hospital.
Charlevoix Hospital has served its community since 1919.
In Traverse City, the 55-bed James Decker Munson Hospital opened in 1925. It was renamed Munson Medical Center in 1964 to reflect its regional role and wide range of services.
They began operations in 1993 as a Not for Profit 501 c(3) corporation funded by a Health and Human Services grant to deliver Emergency Medical Service (EMS) educational programs to EMS volunteers and professionals across rural regions of northern Michigan.
As members expanded use of network capabilities for other medical education, administrative meetings, physician grand rounds and telemedicine activities, the name was changed in 1999 to REMEC TeleHealth Network.
Since 2000, Munson Manor Hospitality House has served more than 56,000 guests from 25 northern Michigan counties, adjacent states, and Canada.
