Job Description
A Day in the Life
EnvironmentalServices is front line infection prevention responsible for performing services in accordance with established organizational policies and procedures for providing a safe environment, achieved by demonstrating the principles of cleaning, disinfection and quality assurance toward the reduction of harmful pathogens for the benefit of patients, visitors, and staff.
* Standing and walking much of the day. Requires bending, stretching, climbing ladders, lifting, pulling and pushing. Hands in solutions frequently.
* Must follow all department, hospital and regulatory agency guidelines. Wear PPE (personal protective equipment) as required and have complete knowledge and understanding of Universal Precautions and Blood Borne Pathogen standards.
* Handle soiled linen, hazardous waste, clean windows, washes walls, doors, furniture, beds, equipment, sinks, toilets, etc., in patient rooms, treatment areas, offices, and public areas.
* Vacuum carpets, dust and damp mop floors, clean windows, washes walls, doors, wipe plastic and vinyl furniture. Vacuum cloth furniture, wash beds, equipment, showers, sinks, and toilets inside and out. Empty trash, high dust, clean restrooms daily, and dust complete room upon dismissal. High dust offices and public areas as scheduled.
* Hang and/or take down drapes, cubicle curtains, and shades, as required.
* Terminal clean - preparing patient procedure rooms for new admissions by using approved disinfectants and cleaning furnishings, floors, equipment and restrooms. Washing beds and putting on clean linen. Complete discharge sheet as required. Move furniture and equipment to clean under.
* Remove trash/recycling/Confidential (HIPPIA) information and soiled linen from floors using utility cart. Replace sharps container in patient rooms, procedure rooms, and soiled utility rooms.
* Other duties as assigned

Summary
Position Highlights:
The EnvironmentalServices Specialty Technician's primary responsibility is disinfecting
specialty areas such as Infusion Pharmacy, Sterile Processing, Operating Rooms, Procedure Rooms, Cell Therapy. As part of the Spill Response Team, deactivates and decontaminates chemotherapy and other hazardous agent spills. Responsible for reducing the spread of bacteria and infection as well as providing an environment that appears clean, fresh, and polished. This position performs a variety of duties that support the department in maintaining a clean environment for patients and staff, this includes cleaning/disinfecting other areas as needed.
Responsibilities:
* Clean spills containing blood or other potentially infectious material using established infection control, safety, and ES departmental procedures.
* Occasionally may have to work at off-site locations.
* Follow departmental and other regulatory standards regarding all cleaning policies and procedures (using proper disinfectants, labeling chemical bottles, keeping an organized cart, etc.)
* Perform all essential functions following established safety and infection control requirements (perform hand hygiene, wear PPE, etc.)
* Safely uses, dilutes, and stores chemicals and cleaning materials.
* Complete working knowledge of different types of hazardous materials (chemotherapy, pharmaceutical, bio-hazardous, sharps, pathological, microbiological, and bodily fluids) and how to properly handle and dispose.

1. Performs all types of floor care and maintenance throughout the facility, including hard surfaces and carpets.
2. Cleans and performs routine maintenance on floor equipment; reports any maintenance needed immediately to EVS Supervision.
3. Maintains accurate floor care logs and checklists.
4. Operates all equipment with care and according to facility and manufactures safety standards and procedures.
5. Uses cleaning chemicals appropriately and with proper dilution ratio.
6. Performs project work and specialty tasks according to facility needs. This may include but is not limited to tasks such as conference room set up/dismantle according to setup requirements, and schedules. Cleaning of stairwells, elevators, changing cubicle curtains, furniture moves, and bed transport.
7. Removes waste and soiled linen in a safe and effective manner to designated area following established guidelines.
8. Follows all infection prevention practices (i.e. proper cleaning process, hand hygiene,
standard and isolation precautions, where and if required. Following proper use of all Personal Protective Equipment at all times.
9. Keeps janitor closet, equipment and cleaning tools, in a neat, clean and organized manner
10. Recognizes and adheres to patient privacy and all HIPAA requirements.
Minimum Education, Training and Experience Required:
A. High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
B. Demonstrates interpersonal skills necessary to promote and maintain cooperative and courteous relationships with team members, patients, visitors, doctors and others.
C. Demonstrates ability to prioritize tasks.
D. Floor Restorative Maintenance experience required.
E. Certified Health Care EnvironmentalServicesTechnician (CHEST), Certified Surgical Cleaning Technician (CSCT), or, DOT Certification preferred.

Duties & Responsibilities
General Duties:
Demonstrates knowledge of all infection control procedures including proper hand washing techniques, contact with blood spills and standard precautions.
Promotion of and adherence to the elements of the corporate compliance program.
Attends all in services and meetings as required.
Demonstrates accurate knowledge of chemicals used in performing duties.
Dietary Duties:
Helps in collecting menus, delivering meals and snacks, removing and cleaning trays.
Assists the cook in food preparation as necessary.
Sets and cleans the family dining room area as necessary.
Cleans and maintains the family room kitchen on a daily basis.
Replenishes any products as necessary.
Washes pots, pans, dishes and silverware according to procedures.
Puts the clean items in the proper location as assigned.
Assists with setting up and clean up for events.
Collects and removes trash as necessary.
Maintains high standards of sanitation, staff hygiene, food service techniques and safety.
Provides assistance to leadership in the acceptance and verification of vendor deliveries.
Able to prepare, distribute and serve food under sanitary conditions in accordance with the New York State Health Department.
Housekeeping Duties:
Cleans patient rooms including but not limited to dusting furniture, dust and wet mop floors, vacuuming carpets.
Cleans closets and drawers as needed.
Cleans toilets, sinks and mirrors in the patient bathroom.
Polishes and cleans fixtures in the patient bathroom.
Moves furniture and other heavy objects as required utilizing proper lifting techniques.
Collects refuse and regulated medical wastes and disposes it according to the established policy and procedure.
Adheres to all safety issues relative to medical waste, soiled linen and blood borne pathogens.
Empties and cleans waste baskets, relines containers with new liners.
Cleans and disinfects all fixtures, floors, mirrors, windows, doors, countertops and walls of the bathroom.
Cleans communal areas throughout the hospice house.
Cleans/maintains office areas. Empties trash, vacuums, cleans furniture, walls and vents.
Cleans and maintains the staff lounge, staff locker rooms, family and staff bathrooms
Conducts job duties in accordance with established department policy and safety/sanitation standards.
Returns equipment and tools to proper location after use, clean and in good condition.
Properly uses machines to meet environmentalservices requirements such as vacuum cleaners, carpet cleaner, etc.
Reports mechanical failures or necessary equipment repairs to supervisor.
Laundry Duties:
Receives and collects soiled linen from the patient's rooms. Sorts linens according to type, condition and color. The patient's laundry will be separated and washed individually.
Plans daily wash schedule and establishes priorities with the Director of Support Services or designee.
Uses standard precautions when handling soiled linen.
Loads, operates, and unloads washer/dryer following established methods and formulas.
Insures linen weights are accurate and machine is loaded properly before start of operation.
Ensures that the linen room, cleaning equipment carts, and floor is kept neat and orderly. Assists in maintaining the laundry facilities, equipment and supplies.
Assists with the preventive maintenance of equipment such as dryer and washer replacement filters and cleaning of lint traps as needed.
Returns clean laundry to each individual patient's room.
Qualifications
High School Diploma/GED
Ability to comprehend food service and housekeeping operations.
6 months to 1 year experience as a foodservice worker in a healthcare facility preferred
6 months to 1 year experience as a housekeeping aide in a healthcare facility preferred.
Knowledge of and compliance with all applicable federal, state and local privacy laws and regulations, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
Will be respectful of patient and visitor property.

BASIC FUNCTION:
The EnvironmentalService (EVS) Technician I is responsible for providing a safe care environment for patients and staff within the Seneca Nation Health System (SNHS) achieved by demonstrating the principles of cleaning, disinfection and quality assurance towards the reduction of harmful pathogens for the benefits of patients, visitors, and staff. While executing the assigned tasks, the EVS Technician I will have contact with patients, employees, and visitors. The EVS Tech I, in accordance with organizational standards of quality, is an essential contributor to cleaning, disinfection, infection prevention and the patient experience. Under the direction of the Facilities Manager/Assistant Facilities Manager, the EVS Tech I will perform a variety of cleaning and service tasks.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide quality customer service excellence to employees, visitors, and patients.
2. Performs cleaning activities within a healthcare environment to ensure that infection control guidelines are met. This includes, but not limited to, dusting wall surfaces, floors, ledges, furniture, disinfecting wall surfaces, vents, floor ledges, restrooms including toilets and sinks.
3. Handle soiled linen, regular waste, and medical waste following all precautions required for personal safety and the safety of others.
4. Gathers and disposes of regular trash and regulated medical waste, washes waste containers, re-lines containers with paper or plastic bags. Restock restroom supplies.
