Job Description
A Day in the Life
The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) provides care for all ages of patients. In addition to covering the general and pediatric nursing units and following competency assessment, this therapist may also accept patient care assignments in the Emergency Department, PACU and adult critical care. Some therapists provide services in other clinical areas as directed by their facility.
Perform comprehensive respiratory care for adult and pediatric patients, including therapeutic treatments, diagnostic monitoring, ventilator management (invasive and non-invasive), emergency airway support, and response to Code Blue, MRT, and PRT calls.
Assess respiratory status and develop individualized care plans using approved protocols, maintaining accurate documentation, daily charges, infection control practices, and EMR order verification.
Support pulmonary rehabilitation by supervising exercise sessions, monitoring clinical responses, providing patient education, documenting progress, and coordinating home respiratory equipment and oxygen evaluations.
Conduct pulmonary function and diagnostic testing (for trained therapists), including spirometry, lung volumes, diffusion studies, bronchial challenge, exercise testing, and equipment calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Assist with cardiac diagnostic services and leadership tasks (for qualified therapists) by performing EKGs, stress tests, Holter monitoring, overseeing staffing and assignments, supporting new employee orientation, and serving as team leader during Code Triage events.
Qualifications
What's Required
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) through the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) required.
Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) who is registry-eligible allowed entry into job classification - RRT must be obtained within 4 months to remain in RRT classification.
Currently licensed as a Respiratory Therapist in the State of Michigan or eligible to apply.

The Respiratory Therapist (RT) will be responsible for assessment, treatment and management of all patients across the age spectrum with breathing abnormalities or imparities. Roles and Responsibilities:
* Performs all respiratory therapy duties in all patient care areas.
* Proficient in mechanical ventilation, NIPPV, patient assessment, tracheostomy care, high flow Oxygen therapy, airway stabilization/maintenance, patient education, ABG acquisition and outpatient respiratory procedures.
* Quickly responds and communicates with nursing and providers regarding changes in patient condition.
* Performs timely and accurate documentation
* Actively participates in patient treatment plan and supports multidisciplinary team rounds.
* Positive attitude with a patient centered care focus and maintains approachable behavior and acts as a resource to others
Required Skills and Experience:

A Day in the Life
Make a real impact from day one. Join a collaborative respiratory care team where you'll gain hands-on experience and grow your skills under the support of highly skilled, licensed respiratory therapists.

Support patient care under the supervision of a licensed respiratory therapist, with responsibilities progressing by experience level: First Year Techs assist therapists closely and remain nearby during care, while Second Year Techs provide patient care with indirect, onsite supervision from a Respiratory Care Clinical Coordinator or Charge Respiratory Therapist.
Cleans, assembles, and performance-tests patient care equipment; maintains backup respiratory equipment in designated storage areas; and supports clinical staff by delivering equipment to patient care units during emergent situations.
Restocks Respiratory Care supply carts and oxygen cylinders to ensure continuous availability of essential supplies.
Performs and documents basic respiratory procedures for adult and pediatric patients, including incentive spirometry, medicated aerosol treatments (excluding continuous or critical care therapy), MDI/DPI administration, CPT, Flutter Valve, Volara, EzPAP™, PEP, oxygen administration, and pulse oximetry; interns may draw arterial blood gases and perform ABG analysis only under direct supervision.
Conducts basic respiratory assessments during therapy, reporting changes in patient condition to the supervising therapist and seeking guidance for newly admitted patients or when adjustments to the plan of care are needed.
Participates in Code Blue or Medical Response Team (MRT) situations under direct supervision of a licensed respiratory therapist and accurately charges for all therapies and services provided.
Qualifications
What's Required
High School Diploma or GED
Actively enrolled in an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program
Enrolled in a Respiratory Therapy program and have successfully completed the first adult critical care rotation preferred
