The Ultrasonographer I functions under the delegated authority of a supervising physician to provide diagnostic medical sonography services, delivering clinically relevant imaging information to support patient diagnosis and treatment in accordance with education, training, professional standards, and facility policies.
Prepare equipment and exam rooms, verify orders and patient identifiers, review patient history, communicate effectively with patients, and perform ultrasound examinations safely and efficiently per established protocols.
Apply independent clinical judgment to obtain accurate and complete imaging, recognize exam limitations, acquire additional images as needed, and prepare preliminary findings for physician interpretation.
Ensure patient safety, comfort, privacy, and infection control while maintaining professional, ethical, and appearance standards.
Operate, clean, and maintain ultrasound equipment; perform quality control; manage documentation and images in PACS; and support departmental operations, including quality improvement activities, basic vascular studies, education support, on-call coverage, and routine stocking and housekeeping.

Completion of college or hospital based Vascular or Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program or completion of Allied Health Program approved by the AMA.
Registered or registry eligible. Registry should be acquired within 6 months from hire date of minimum of Physics registry passed and a specialty registry by 1 year of hire date.
Level 1: Under 5 years' experience in at least a single RDMS subspecialty (ABD, OB/GYN etc.)

A Day in the Life
Follows GXT lab guidelines and procedures for patient assessment, preparation, ECG recordings, test performance, test endpoints and recovery monitoring. Notifies the supervising physician of any abnormal pre-test conditions, abnormalities or concerns. No stress testing of any kind will be run in the absence of the supervising physician being in the department and available
Performs resting 12 lead electrocardiograms in a uniform fashion with proper electrode placement.
Scans holter monitors and prepares report for physician interpretation (not all staff will be required to scan holters related to low volume to assure the highest competency, therefore not diluting the staff and affecting quality).
Monitors and evaluates all tracings to include EKG's, Holter monitors, Stress Exercise/Dobutamine, Cardiolite, Adenosine, Dobutamine Cardiolites, Lexiscan and Persantine studies to determine artifact and dysrhythmia and/or ST segment changes.
May provide coverage and relief in Cardiac Prevention and Rehabilitation. This would require understanding exercise prescription of the cardiac client and interpretation of a telemetry monitor, and provision of patient education as it pertains to exercise and healthy lifestyle.
Qualifications
What's Required
Bachelor of Science from an accredited college or university majoring in Exercise Physiology, Science or Movement Science, or Kinesiology or similar program required.
American College of Sports Medicine Certification preferred.
Current BCLS certification.
Current ACLS certification. (This certification is preferred, must be obtained withing 90 days upon employment).
Completion of approved ECG interpretation course successfully or may be challenged to meet competency thru staff development.
One year of prior exercise testing experience in Cardiac Diagnostic type lab preferred. Will consider experience in Cardiac Rehab program administering stress testing.
