Murdock Middle High School history
Murdock Middle High School company history timeline
A Winchendon Academy, at least partly a boarding school, was established on the site of the present Colonial Bank around 1835.
Through the bequest of Ephraim Murdock, Jr. the Murdock School was opened as a public high school in 1887.
1888 Classes outgrow the community hall and the first building is designated as a school at the corner of Marion & Harvey Streets in Punta Gorda.
Overcrowding forced construction of a new school on Taylor Street in 1911.
The school remained segregated until 1964 when Charlotte County Schools were integrated.
When it opened in 1975, four older buildings were closed.
The present Murdock Middle High School (opened 1995) was built to accommodate the increasing student population.
Received Federal Stimulus Funds through the American Recovery Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) for the rebuilding of Meadow Park Elementary School and Lemon Bay High School.
