Responsibilities
MV Transportation is seeking an experienced Safety and Training Manager. The Safety and Training Manager will be a hands-on manager helping implement programs and procedures in compliance with State and Federal regulations and corporate and client policies and be accountable for the leadership of OSHA/CDL at the division level.
Job Responsibilities:
Sets the tone for ensuring all operators are current with training requirements of company and contract.
Ensures all safety manuals, programs, policies and practices are current and meet the needs of the operating divisions.
Resides as the expert in EPA and OSHA, CDL compliance and regulations.
Ensures all new hires meet minimum general qualifications for each division including background and DMV checks.
Ensures that safety technology tools are used and those results are examined, trend data is analyzed and plans are developed to reduce and then prevent future safety incidents.
Oversees corporate safety Incentives and programs managed effectively and consistently, including assignment of Safety Points.
Ensures a consistent safety culture throughout the locations that incorporate operations, safety and maintenance departments and emphasizes the team approach and individual responsibility of all employees to achieve common goals.
Work with corporate claims staff to ensure that all liability and worker's compensation claims are handled promptly and effectively and, in an effort, to reduce financial liability as well as recoup on all subrogatable claims.
Proactively manage all employee injury claims to minimize lost time and light duty claims. Work with local medical facilities to ensure that injured employees are placed on light duty as quickly as possible and are returned to full-duty status promptly.
Oversees successful completion of all related audits including those conducted by corporate and client staff and by state and federal regulatory agencies.
Leads the division in the area of safety organization regarding classroom and behind the wheel instruction according to corporate and client specifications in all aspects.
Qualifications
Talent Requirements:
Transit safety experience.
Experience working in transit, preferably urban public.
Previous passenger transportation in current project or similar environment preferred.
College Degree or five (5) + years of safety management experience.
Prefer CDS (Certified Director of Safety) and/or CSP (Certified Safety Professional) Designation. Certifications according to local contract requirements.
Knowledge of all applicable safety rules, regulations - FTA, FMCSA, and DOT.
Knowledge of regulations and corporate safety programs and policies.
Ability to read, write and speak English.
Ability to communicate effectively and work with all departments.
Ability to work independently and objectively.
Strong organizational skills.
Ability to effectively delegate tasks and provide appropriate supervision and follow up to department staff.
Familiar with windows-based computer operating systems and Microsoft Office packages.
Strong analytical skills.
Strong Microsoft applications experience.
Starting salary range: $90,000 - $100,000

PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Safety Manager is responsible for the overall safety and compliance of assigned group of drivers. Manages drivers in regards to safe operation of the truck pursuant to Federal Motor Carrier safety regulations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Safety Manager conducts and oversees on-scene accident investigations, determines contributing factors, and assigns fault. When a TMC driver is found at fault, the Safety Manager determines financial liability and seeks reimbursement for damages. This role also coaches drivers and operations staff on hours-of-service compliance and provides expert guidance on cargo securement.
In addition, the Safety Manager handles cargo claims investigations, determines fault for damaged cargo, pursues reimbursement when appropriate, and authorizes vendor payments as needed. The position is responsible for approving or declining driver applications, leading group and one-on-one safety meetings, coaching drivers on improvement areas, and recommending retraining when necessary. The Safety Manager also conducts disciplinary meetings, including terminations.
Other duties include overseeing truck securement processes, locating abandoned trucks, and participating in the department's rotating after-hours on-call schedule. The Safety Manager also conducts road trips to evaluate driver securement practices, hours-of-service compliance, driving performance, and equipment usage, while visiting customers and vendors to address issues or strengthen relationships.
REQUIREMENTS:
Four-year degree, preferably in Transportation and Logistics, and/or relevant experience in transportation or related field.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) products.
Ability to function in a fast-paced work environment and tolerate stress.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Safety Management, the Physical Sciences, or a related technical field. Ten years of professional experience in the management, planning, compliance, and monitoring of operational safety, accidents/incidents & investigations, and safety project management activities. Professional experience that also includes fire/life safety, industrial safety, construction safety, environmental safety is desired. Rail State Safety Oversight experience preferred. A minimum of five years of management experience with strong analytical skills with critical reasoning and thinking; as well as, a proven background in developing and implementing safety or safety-related programs in a transit, transportation, public safety or engineering environment. Experience in performing comprehensive operational safety/quality reviews and analyses. Professional certification or registration in a safety discipline (Professional Engineer or Certified Safety Professional), World Safety Organization (WSO) or Certified Safety & Security Director (CSSD) - Bus or Rail is desired.
Completion of U.S. Department of Transportation courses to include Transit Safety and Security Program (TSSP) certification or Public Transportation Safety Certification Training Program (PTSCTP) certification is as follows: § PTSCTP or TSSP in Rail is required. § PTSCTP or TSSP in Bus is strongly preferred. TSSP certification in Bus is desired. in Rail Transit Safety Program Management and Accident Investigation (i.e., TSSP - Bus and Rail OR PTSCTP - Bus and Rail) is required.
In lieu of a degree, directly related work experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis and will be in addition to required years of experience.
SUMMARY:
Develops, implements, and maintains Authority wide safety programs to include operational bus and rail safety as well as accident and incidents investigation. Oversight includes hazard management, safety assurance, safety hotline and safety 1st programs. Ensures coordination and cooperation between the Office of Safety and all other MARTA Departments. Has the authority and responsibility to suspend unsafe operations in order to protect employees, the public and property. May represent the Authority to federal agencies, local groups and organizations, professional associations, and other similar groups. Serves as the Authority's Fire Marshal.
This position has direct responsibility for transit safety oversight at MARTA and is required to comply with the training requirements identified in the Authority's Agency Safety Plan. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

3. Ensures the effectiveness of safety controls on work carried out by MARTA employees, consultants, contractors, and subcontractors in accordance with established standards.

Responsibilities
MV Transportation is seeking an experienced Safety and Training Manager. The Safety and Training Manager will be a hands-on manager helping implement programs and procedures in compliance with State and Federal regulations and corporate and client policies and be accountable for the leadership of OSHA/CDL at the division level.
Job Responsibilities:
Responsible for implementing and maintaining all operator training and safety programs, including new-hire and refresher training, defensive driving, safety meetings, and emergency preparedness.
Sets the tone for ensuring all operators are current with training requirements of company and contract.
Ensures all safety manuals, programs, policies and practices are current and meet the needs of the operating divisions.
Resides as the expert in EPA and OSHA, CDL compliance and regulations.
Ensures all new hires meet minimum general qualifications for each division including background and DMV checks.
Ensures that safety technology tools are used and those results are examined, trend data is analyzed and plans are developed to reduce and then prevent future safety incidents.
Oversees corporate safety Incentives and programs managed effectively and consistently, including assignment of Safety Points.
Ensures a consistent safety culture throughout the locations that incorporate operations, safety and maintenance departments and emphasizes the team approach and individual responsibility of all employees to achieve common goals.
Work with corporate claims staff to ensure that all liability and worker's compensation claims are handled promptly and effectively and, in an effort, to reduce financial liability as well as recoup on all subrogatable claims.
Proactively manage all employee injury claims to minimize lost time and light duty claims. Work with local medical facilities to ensure that injured employees are placed on light duty as quickly as possible and are returned to full-duty status promptly.
Oversees successful completion of all related audits including those conducted by corporate and client staff and by state and federal regulatory agencies.
Leads the division in the area of safety organization regarding classroom and behind the wheel instruction according to corporate and client specifications in all aspects.
Qualifications
Talent Requirements:
Three (3) years in leadership role providing transit safety experience.
Minimum qualifications include TSI certification, three years of instructional experience, a valid Class A or B California license with passenger endorsement, and Verified Transit Training (VTT).
Experience working in transit, preferably urban public.
Previous passenger transportation in current project or similar environment preferred.
Five (5) + years of safety management experience (5 years is desired).
Prefer CDS (Certified Director of Safety) and/or CSP (Certified Safety Professional) Designation. Certifications according to local contract requirements.
Knowledge of all applicable safety rules, regulations - FTA, FMCSA, and DOT.
Knowledge of regulations and corporate safety programs and policies.
Ability to read, write and speak English.
Ability to communicate effectively and work with all departments.
Ability to work independently and objectively.
Strong organizational skills.
Ability to effectively delegate tasks and provide appropriate supervision and follow up to department staff.
Familiar with windows-based computer operating systems and Microsoft Office packages.
Strong analytical skills.
Strong Microsoft applications experience.
Starting salary range: $77,000 - $91,000
