We're seeking a talented Environmental Engineer Compliance Consultant in Virginia Beach, Richmond or Hampton, Virginia U.S. to support and deliver Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans; Facility Response Plans (FRP); and Clean Water Act (CWA), Stormwater (SW), and National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Regulatory Reviews and Permits through engineering, design, and project management. Jacobs is a hybrid work environment, and some work may be performed remotely. The role includes up to 50% domestic and international travel.
You'll utilize your engineering background and creativity to address prevalent stormwater, tank, and wastewater compliance issues. You'll help advance the industry by delivering sustainable solutions for clients and connect with Jacobs' practitioners to deliver innovative and sustainable solutions. We'll lean on you to lead design, engineering, and project tasks, delegate work, and collaborate with engineers and design practitioners of varying experience levels. You'll also mentor junior practitioners and learn from senior practitioners to grow professionally. * A bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering, or related engineering field.
* More than five years of experience with Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans; Facility Response Plans (FRP); Clean Water Act (CWA); Stormwater (SW); and National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permitting.
* Experience supporting field efforts.
* Experience working with multi-disciplinary project teams and comfortable guiding them through best practices.
* Professional Engineer (PE) registration in Virginia OR possess the ability to gain licensure within one year of employment.
* Certification by the Steel Tank Institute as an Above Ground Storage Tank SP001 Inspector OR possess the ability to gain registration within six months of employment.
* Experience with writing (i.e., regulatory compliance plans, stormwater inspection reports, proposals).
* Effective communication skills, including demonstrated presentation skills.
* Proficiency in MS Office tools (Word, Excel, Access, etc.).
* Ability to work as part of a team and coordinate with multiple stakeholders.
* Planning and organizational skills with the ability to meet project deadlines.
* Excellent attention to detail of complex engineered components.
* Strong problem-solving abilities with a client-focused mindset.
* The role requires US Citizenship and a US passport (or ability to obtain one within three months of employment).
Ideally, you'll also have
* A master's degree in civil or environmental engineering, or related engineering field.
* The ability to function as a technical project lead by breaking down complex problems into actionable tasks, managing workflows, and bridging the gap between technical and non-technical team members.
* General familiarity with core project management competencies (ex: define scope, set timelines, assure quality).

This paid position is designed for someone interested in a Winter/Spring semester internship of approximately 13 weeks total; 16-20 hours/week.
WHAT YOU WILL ACCOMPLISH
Partnering with functional area leaders and business operators and supplier network partners on communications and setting up systems for data relevant to our sustainability programs
Providing detailed fact finding, research, and analysis on sustainability and social benefits activities, including greenhouse gas reduction reporting and diversity/inclusion/social impact initiatives
Data collection, spreadsheet creation and management
Analyzing data inputs on ESG metrics and ensuring accuracy around reporting.
Analyzing external certification resources and suggesting standards recommendations to company, clients, and industry
Contributing to the content and quality of annual impact reports
Supporting automation of key processes, including:
Supporting the transition to a systemically sustained ESG Database
Automating key processes (in partnership with our PMO and Data Analytics teams
With the team, delivering a functional ESG database with usable automation tools
This role reports to the VP, Content and Research in a matrixed structure including leaders in FPA/Data Analytics, IT, Marketing Services, and Project Management, with visibility to our Executive Team.
