The Remote HVAC Appliance Technician installs, repairs, and maintains industrial and commercial HVAC equipment as well as electric air handling units, exhaust fans, make up air units, pneumatic as well as line, and low voltage controls, various appliances and air compressors. All duties are to be performed in accordance with NMS' mission, vision, and values.
**Responsibilities**
+ Trouble shoots and repairs, as dictated by sound business practices, industrial HVAC equipment, pneumatic control systems, line and low voltage control systems, residential style fuel burning and electric furnaces, unit heaters, kitchen exhaust systems, various appliances, air compressors and other general service areas.
+ Repairs and maintains all the heating, air handling systems and A/C units.
+ Interprets preventative maintenance schedules and carries them through the steps needed for completion as noted on computer generated general maintenance/repair work orders.
+ Trouble shoots and repair large tonnage cooling equipment used in controlled environment such as labs or computer and control areas.
+ Diagnose and repair pneumatic systems related to building climate controls.
+ Lays out the installation of structural and functional components and installs them as required. Fastens parts together to assemble structural and functional components such as motors, controls, switches, gauges, wiring harnesses, valves, pumps, compressors, condensers, cores, and pipes.
+ Cuts, threads, and connects pipe to functional components and water or power system on premises.
+ Pumps specified gas or fluid into system. Starts system, observes operation, read gauges and instruments, and adjusts mechanisms such as valves, controls, and pumps to control level of fluid, pressure, and temperature in system.
+ Dismantle malfunctioning systems and test components. Replaces or adjusts defective or worn parts to repair systems.
+ Tests and repairs various systems and equipment using meters, schematics, drawings and manuals.
+ Install wiring to connect components to electric power source.
+ Attends daily safety toolbox meetings and is required to do job safety evaluations for each job.
+ Notify supervisor if safety and sanitation standards are not being met.
+ This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
+ Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit's success also may be assigned.
**Qualifications**
+ High school diploma or GED equivalent.
+ Technician must have EPA Universal certification to work on refrigerant systems.
+ Five (5) years' experience working in a commercial and/or industrial setting.
+ HVAC hands on repair and troubleshooting proficiency in the commercial and industrial settings is required.
+ Perform routine calibration and troubleshooting of pneumatic and electrical line and low voltage thermostats and controllers, routine change of filters.
+ Trouble shoot and diagnosis of airflow problems, monitor glycol pressures and levels.
+ Periodic inspection and monitoring of air conditioning coils to ensure proper airflows and heat rejection.
+ Augmentation of filter changes as required, inspect coil conditions for organic debris and soils.
+ Ensure compliance with EPA.
+ Use the Annual Preventative Air Conditioning Maintenance checklists/job plan provided or by manufacturers specifications.
+ Knowledge and ability to perform maintenance on various types of heating systems is required.
+ Basic knowledge of low to high voltage, 3 phase wiring principles and how to read a schematic.
+ The ability to write detailed, descriptive reports on HVAC equipment and required repairs. CFC reports required by the client, etc.
+ A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under NMS' vehicle insurance policy.
+ Must pass all pre-employment contract requirements which may include but are not limited to: drug test, physical and fit for duty assessment and hearing test. Applicants not located near a testing facility are responsible for paying for travel to the nearest testing facility.
+ Able to work independently and prioritize workload.
+ Must be able to cooperate and work as part of a team with fellow employees, customers and clients.
+ Must be able to make decisions in the moment with little to no supervision.
+ Must be able to be on your feet for 12 hours per shift for the scheduled rotation.
+ Must be able to live in dormitory style settings and meet cleanliness requirements of the remote camp.

What you will do
Under minimal supervision, conducts preventive maintenance, repair, installation, and commissioning and general servicing of systems (including detailed troubleshooting of systems). Responsible for high levels of customer satisfaction through direct, on site, customer interface. How you will do it
Diagnoses and repairs complex control systems malfunctions requiring extensive knowledge of a variety of electronic or digital controls systems and ability to test and write modifications in multiple languages of systems software.
Consults with the customer through data gathered and site assessments. Provides field proposals for retrofits, upgrades and or enhancements to existing equipment. Assists sales by providing technical recommendations for sales leads.
Manages assigned work to meet professional and efficient execution of time and customer satisfaction. Reports problems or changes to management immediately. Interfaces with branch manager, service manager, service project manager or subcontractors on projects to coordinate activities as required ethically and professionally.
Provides sketches of field changes and discrepancies for engineering corrections and drawings. May assist with job layouts and bid proposals.
Install and modify software and graphics.
Communicates with customers upon arrival and before leaving the work site. Ensures high levels of customer satisfaction. Meets regularly with customers to become familiar with operating problems. Keeps customer informed on the service provided, outstanding issues and recommends system enhancements, upgrades, and replacement. Promotes the sale of add-on work.
Adheres to all Johnson Controls and customer safety standards. Provides safety leadership and instruction to all control's technicians in the branch. Provides safety awareness while working onsite with Johnson Controls subcontractors.
Trains the customer in control systems operations. Delivers manuals and documentation to the customer for training needs as required.
Provides mentorship for certification of Controls Technicians and Service Technicians on complex building automation systems. Coaches, supports and trains the technical workforce on non-complex, non-critical equipment.
Compiles job documentation, such as certificate of completion, customer training form, training certificates and punch lists.
Conducts extensive self-study (reading, research and practice) to improve and maintain technical proficiency in company's product lines. Completes certifications as required by the company.
Other duties related to the installing, commissioning and servicing of building controls and facilities management systems and energy management systems, as assigned.
Assists in the design and configuration of building control systems as defined by the contract documents. Creates flow diagrams, sequence of operations, and bill of material, network layouts and electrical schematics as required.
Assists in developing and testing software programs necessary to operate the system per the project requirements' intent.
Compiles and/or completes project as built and close-out documentation.
Assists in the coordination and creation of necessary drawings and equipment schedules for submittals and installation.
Selects, orders, and tracks the delivery of materials for assigned.

Minimum of Six (6) years Commercial Controls troubleshooting experience in the HVAC industry. This includes buildings, chiller plants and systems.
Vocational School program graduate or associate's degree in a technical field, or two years' experience in servicing electronic and or mechanical systems.
Demonstrated ability to install and/or service electronic control systems and HVAC equipment.
Effective communication skills to represent Johnson Controls on customer sites.
Possesses the ability to explain technical information to technical and non-technical people.
Demonstrate effective writing skills as well as understanding of programs and software applications.

What you will do
Under minimal supervision, conducts preventive maintenance, repair, installation, and commissioning and general servicing of systems (including detailed troubleshooting of systems). Responsible for high levels of customer satisfaction through direct, on site, customer interface. With a high level of complete technical competence, mentors control technicians, service technicians and mechanical technicians on building automation activities. Properly completes required project and service documentation. Provide our customers with the highest level of service to solve building inefficiencies and resolve service-related items. As a trusted advisor to our customers, you will provide solutions and outcomes at the time of service
How you will do it
Diagnoses and repairs complex control systems malfunctions requiring extensive knowledge of a variety of electronic or digital controls systems and ability to test and write modifications in multiple languages of systems software.
Consults with the customer through data gathered and site assessments. Provides field proposals for retrofits, upgrades and or enhancements to existing equipment. Assists sales by providing technical recommendations for sales leads.
Manages assigned work to meet professional and efficient execution of time and customer satisfaction. Reports problems or changes to management immediately. Interfaces with branch manager, service manager, service project manager or subcontractors on projects to coordinate activities as required ethically and professionally.
Provides sketches of field changes and discrepancies for engineering corrections and drawings. May assist with job layouts and bid proposals.
Communicates with customers upon arrival and before leaving the work site. Ensures high levels of customer satisfaction. Meets regularly with customers to become familiar with operating problems. Keeps customer informed on the service provided, outstanding issues and recommends system enhancements, upgrades, and replacement. Promotes the sale of add-on work.
Adheres to all Johnson Controls and customer safety standards. Provides safety leadership and instruction to all control's technicians in the branch. Provides safety awareness while working onsite with Johnson Controls subcontractors.
Trains the customer in control systems operations. Delivers manuals and documentation to the customer for training needs as required.
Provides mentorship for certification of Controls Technicians and Service Technicians on complex building automation systems. Coaches, supports and trains the technical workforce on non-complex, non-critical equipment.
Compiles job documentation, such as certificate of completion, customer training form, training certificates and punch lists.
Conducts extensive self-study (reading, research and practice) to improve and maintain technical proficiency in company's product lines. Completes certifications as required by the company.
Other duties related to the installing, commissioning and servicing of building controls and facilities management systems and energy management systems, as assigned.
Assists in the design and configuration of building control systems as defined by the contract documents. Creates flow diagrams, sequence of operations, and bill of material, network layouts and electrical schematics as required.
Assists in developing and testing software programs necessary to operate the system per the project requirements' intent.
Compiles and/or completes project as built and close-out documentation.
Assists in the coordination and creation of necessary drawings and equipment schedules for submittals and installation.
Selects, orders, and tracks the delivery of materials for assigned projects. Coordinates factory-mounting processes to meet factory and project schedule.
Assists in the loading and commissioning of all system and network-level controllers as required. Assists in validation of complete system functionality and troubleshoots problems with subcontractors and other trades to ensure proper operation.
May provide field change information to the project team for the creation of as-built drawings and software.
Keeps management and JCI contractor or customer informed of job progress and issues.
Assists in performing site-specific training for owner / operator on the total building control system.
Participates in release meeting with project field team.

Pay Range: $29.00 - 40.00 hourly rate determined by the CBA/rate sheet. Benefits are provided through a local labor union aligned with a collective bargaining agreement.
