Naples Zoo company history timeline

2004

2004 - After the Fleischmanns declare they plan to sell the land for development, Collier County residents vote to buy the land.

In 2004, a referendum to purchase the land was approved by 73% of voters.

2005

In order to make the purchase easier, the Tetzlaffs made the Zoo a 501(c)(3) charitable organization and gave control to the newly established Naples Zoo Board of Directors in 2005.

2012

2012 - David Tetzlaff leaves the zoo for a new job at a zoo in Sanford, Florida.

2012 - Jack Mulvena becomes the new president and CEO of the Naples Zoo.

2014

The large graphics heading each section below were published in Naples Daily News in 2014 to celebrate 95 years as a botanical garden, 45 years as a zoo, and 10 years since the vote to purchase the land.
