Senior Software Engineer, Alex Sippel, shared his thoughts on why NS is such a great company to work for. He said, "What I like best about working at Narrative Science is really a combination of three things: awesome, intelligent coworkers, a fascinating and truly compelling company objective, and really interesting work on until-now unsolved problems."

Diving Into the Values at Narrative Science

Innovating and Collaborating

  • Team First Approach : Always emphasizing team over self. Defining success collectively instead of individually.
  • Mission Driven : Viewing work as a mission, not a job.
  • Innovative : Maintaining an unquenchable curiosity while never being satisfied with the status quo.
  • Impactful : Inspiring others to perform beyond expectations.
  • The company greatly values collaboration within the workplace. Collabs between teams and departments are something that employees get very used to. Anna, a Director of Growth Marketing said, "At Narrative Science, teams collaborate every day. When it comes to background, experience, and points of view, we are a very diverse company, and our employees take full advantage of that. It isn't uncommon to see functional teams pulling in members from other teams to work on initiatives together or even just to get another opinion."

Another great thing that Narrative Science believes in is promoting from within. They love their people and when a position opens up, they will always look to their own first. There is a lot of room to grow in this company.

  • Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee
  • Women's Group
  • Social Committee
  • NS Talent Coordinator Lyndsey Harrell is a part of the Social Committee and said, "Our social committee, which is comprised of volunteers from all different teams, plans a variety of events throughout the year including company outings and in-house parties to embody the company culture. Thanks to this committee, the NS team enjoys everything from pop-up game nights to an annual holiday party, summer party, and Oktoberfest."

    The Office at Narrative Science

    Finding the Perfect Balance

Narrative Science is based in Chicago and has additional offices in NYC and Seattle. The HQ office is in the heart of the Loop, one of the coolest areas in Chicago. And it is up there with some of the coolest and most modern office spaces in the city. There are kombucha, beer and wine on tap. There are personal phone booths as well as a library for your reading pleasure. This is a place that loves words, so employees will be sure to enjoy that library.

The office is ergonomically designed for the ultimate collaborative atmosphere. The CEO literally had a company come in and watch the way that employees interacted in order to create the most ideal space. There are two seats for every person in the office. That means an assigned desk and then a space that is not assigned. These could be private rooms or even informal common spaces. Employees can choose where they want to work.
