NAIS company history timeline
On March 1, 1962, delegates from the Independent Schools Education Board (ISEB) and the National Council of Independent Schools (NCIS) voted to establish an entity with the name National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS).
The NAIS was organized in 1962, the result of the merger of the Independent Schools Education Board and the National Council of Independent Schools.

Village Community School opened its doors to students in September 1970.
The first 8th Grade class graduated in 1973.
Since Walden School’s founding in 1975, there has been a strong emphasis on small class size and a strong fine arts education, to complement a rigorous curriculum grounded in critical thinking.
The magazine, which would drop "Bulletin" from its name in 1976, began the month before Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, becoming the first and, to this day, only magazine focused primarily on precollegiate independent education.
Established in 1984, the NAIS Association Grants Funds has staffed 26 workshops and awarded $117,000 in grants to member associations for teacher development.
Founding Director Sheila Sadler led VCS for 20 years, retiring in 1989.
Jeff Wallis then served as Director until 1996.
NAIS restructuring plan to take effect August 1, 2000.
NAIS launches the Parent Satisfaction Survey and publishes the 2003 Parent Survey Report.
The board announces a search for a new president, when Patrick F. Bassett retires on June 30th, 2013, and forms a search committee.
