Purpose/Description
The Plumber in Roads Maintenance Division performs skilled work in installing, maintaining, and repairing plumbing systems, fixtures and equipment. The Plumber will assemble, install, or repair pipes, fittings, or fixtures of heating, water, or drainage systems, according to specifications or plumbing codes in Buildings and facilities within Roads Maintenance Division. The Plumber usually works independently following accepted trade practices and may be required to do occasional steam fitting.
Educational Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent
Apprenticeship in skilled trades as a plumber.
Valid state of Michigan Plumber, Journeyperson license
Backflow prevention license or obtain within six months of employment. Extension may be given at the discretion of management.
Experience Requirements
Five years as a full-time paid licensed Plumber
Valid state of Michigan Driver's license with a safe and acceptable driving record (no more than 7 points)
Required Knowledge
Mechanical-Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
Building and Construction-Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of houses, buildings, or other structures such as highways and roads.
Design-Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
Customer and Personal Service-Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

Maintain plumbing fixtures in offices and yards.
Maintain water lines.
Maintain drains.
Maintain boilers.
Keep records.
Other Duties include:
Maintain or repair plumbing by replacing defective washers, replacing or mending broken pipes, or opening clogged drains.
Measure, cut, thread, or bend pipe to required angle, using hand or power tools or machines, such as pipe cutters, pipe-threading machines, or pipe-bending machines.
Maintain hoses and fill stations.
Install pipe assemblies, fittings, fixtures, valves, appliances such as dishwashers or water heaters, or fixtures such as sinks or toilets, using hand or power tools.
Review blueprints, building codes, or specifications to determine work details or procedures.
Install underground storm, sanitary, or water piping systems, extending piping as needed to connect fixtures and plumbing.
Install green plumbing equipment, such as faucet flow restrictors, dual-flush or pressure-assisted flush toilets, or tankless hot water heaters.
Other related duties as assigned.

The Residential Helper position is a very physically demanding job. Helpers assist drivers with providing safe, courteous, and complete waste removal for customers.

Role Summary

What You'll Do:
Serves as lead worker (e.g., provides work direction and training) over plumbers or trades workers and/or inmates engaged in plumbing work
Installs, modifies and repairs new and existing plumbing (e.g., unclogs commodes, sinks and sewage lines, replaces traps, valves and thermostats)
Installs water, steam and gas lines and hooks up laundry, laboratory and kitchen equipment
Maintains building facilities and equipment (e.g., checks pipes, plumbing and fixtures for signs of corrosion)
Checks and lubricates pumps and valves and changes filters
Makes minor repair on steam lines
Performs support duties related to plumbing (e.g., order supplies, materials and equipment)
Reads blueprints, prepares job estimates, maintains job records and prepares reports
Establish and conduct preventive maintenance programs for plumbing systems and equipment
Serves on institutional committees
Attends training, seminars and/or meetings as required
Performs security functions as required (e.g., man-down, shakedown, inmate movement)

Role Summary As the Plumber for the Hamilton County Facilities Department, you will supervise and coordinate the work of plumbers responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing plumbing systems across County buildings. In this role, you will manage daily plumbing operations, assign and schedule tasks, ensure compliance with plumbing codes, and keep accurate records of materials used. You will also collaborate with other trades and departments to ensure all plumbing projects are completed efficiently, on schedule, and in alignment with safety and quality standards. Summary of Job Duties:
Travels to and gains access to various County buildings to perform plumbing repair and installation in County buildings; operates and/or utilizes hand and power tools (e.g., wrenches, sewer machine, drill, torch, electric hammer, etc.) to unclog toilets, sinks and sewer lines; install water and gas lines according to specifications and plumbing codes; cut and thread pipe; replace valves, traps, thermostats pertaining to plumbing, etc.; cuts openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipes and pipe fittings; checks pipes for leaks, etc.).
Purchases supplies and materials as needed; stocks supplies upon delivery; maintains records of materials used on work projects.
Performs duties of co-workers as required or assigned
Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
Requirements:
City of Cincinnati Plumber's License
Five (5) years apprentice experience in plumbing field
two (2) years experience as a licensed journeyman plumber and/or other work experience which evidences a thorough knowledge of plumbing methods, tools, materials and equipment and demonstrable skill in plumbing
Valid driver's license issued by the state of residency
State of Ohio Department of Commerce Certified Backflow Tester
Required to participate in and adhere to all compulsory safety training and safety procedures provided by the County.
Hazardous Working Conditions:
Must be able to lift heavy piper, stand for long periods, and sometimes work in uncomfortable or cramped positions; may have to work outdoors in inclement weather; must be able to climb and work from ladders and elevated platforms, and work with sharp tools, hot pipers or soldering equipment. Lift up to 50 lbs without material handling device. Ability to use and wear personal protective equipment: half-face respirators/dust mask, safety glasses, lockout tag-out locks/devises, Yellow group lock box, confine space tri-pod kit, confine space meter, body harness for fall protection, BBP kits, fire rated long sleeve shirts, earplugs/muffs, and hand protection.
Position Specific Qualifications
Meet maximum weight requirements for ladders, personal fall protection equipment, and aerial lifts. Maximum lbs. include man and tools. Type 1A “Extra Heavy Duty Industrial Ladder” - maximum capacity of 300 lbs. Type 1AA “Special Duty Industrial Ladder” - maximum capacity of 375 lbs. Most personnel fall arrest equipment (full-body harness & lanyards) is labeled with a capacity limit of 310 lbs. Single Man Lifts - 300-350 lbs.
