What You'll Do
Support residents in achieving their highest level of independence and functioning.
Assist with daily living activities including bathing, dressing, grooming, and personal care.
Encourage resident participation in self-care tasks while providing support and cues as needed.
Take and record vital signs, monitor intake/output, and document care accurately.
Assist residents with mobility, transfers, toileting, and incontinence care using proper body mechanics.
Provide meal assistance including menu selection, feeding support, and post-meal care.
Help residents with positioning, rest, and comfort throughout the day.
Observe and promptly report changes in residents' condition, mood, or appetite to nursing staff.
Maintain resident rooms by changing linens, making beds, and ensuring cleanliness.
Support social engagement by encouraging interaction during meals, activities, and daily care routines.
Assist with orientation of new residents and staff to ensure continuity of care.
Collaborate with the care team to promote each resident's comfort, dignity, and quality of life.
What We Are Looking For:
High School diploma or equivalent preferred
Successful completion of a Personal Care Aide (PCA) training program approved by the Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services OR of a Direct Care Aide (DCA) training program approved by the Virginia Department of Social Service
Must complete NLCS' Direct Care Aide (DCA) Program within two (2) months of employment
Must be able to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing as applicable to their job responsibilities
Ability to communicate and work with persons of varying educational and cultural backgrounds

A Care Companion provides basic health care and support to patients under the guidance of the Registered Nurse or designated healthcare professional.
