At NRAO, we are seeking to recruit a full-time Buyer I to join our Contracts and Procurement team with a position in Socorro, NM. The Buyer will be responsible for the procurement of products and services in an efficient manner, utilizing competition to obtain the best product at the lowest price consistent with the specifications, performance and delivery schedule. All procurements result in the best overall value to NRAO. The Buyer will conduct procurement activity and represent Associated Universities, Inc. (AUI) and NRAO with a high level of integrity. The Buyer ensures compliance with the NRAO Contracts and Procurement manual, National Science Foundation (NSF) Cooperative Agreement, and other government regulations and purchase order terms and conditions. The Buyer will commit funding based on signature authority, or acquire signature approval for purchase orders above signature authority. The position is based at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory offices in Socorro, NM. What You Will be Doing: Ensure all purchase requisitions and supporting documents are complete and accurate. Verify proper approval signatures on requisitions. Assist with the preparation of purchase requisitions when needed. Request engineering samples, catalogues and data specification sheets for technical personnel requisitioners. Prepare and send Requests for Quotes, and make award selections based on best value. Prepare and send larger Request for Proposals, and participate in the competitive selection process with proposal evaluation teams. Negotiate price, delivery and other contractual items in original procurement actions and in any subsequent changes. Enter all purchasing transactions into electronic purchasing system. Track open orders. Contact vendors and expedites late orders. Ensure delivery of materials and services in accordance with scheduled needs. Contact vendors about any issues with deliverables or invoices. Complete tax-exempt certificates, credit applications and credit letters for vendors. Ensure all purchasing is conducted in accordance with NSF, AUI, and Observatory requirements. Prepare documentation required to obtain contract or purchase order approval from NSF. Support all internal and external audit requests. Initiate capital equipment worksheets for fixed assets. Prepare and maintain monthly credit card reconciliations. Proactively comply with Observatory and government safety policies and procedures. Other duties as assigned. NRAO is seeking an experienced engineering professional for an exciting opportunity leading the New Mexico Electronics Division. The division is primarily responsible for the operations, repair, maintenance, and design upgrades of an expansive range of technology utilized on VLA and VLBA radio telescopes. Division members are also contributing to the design and development of the Next Generation Very Large Array (ng VLA) and support operation and maintenance of ALMA subsystems. The Division Head is directly responsible for overall planning, coordination, direction, safety and management including development and administration of budgets, policies, procedures and practices necessary to achieve assigned goals. The position identifies and facilitates continuous improvement initiatives and recommends changes to New Mexico Operations management as needed. The position is based in Socorro, NM at the NRAO Domenici Science Operations Center (DSOC) located on the campus of New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (************* Socorro is a small, historic city in the Rio Grande Valley, 75 miles south of Albuquerque. What You Will be Doing The position leads a large organization skilled in RF, analog, and digital electronics, servomechanisms, cryogenic cooling, distributed monitor and control networks, mechanical engineering, and system design. The NRAO announces an employment opportunity for an Assistant Director for Science Support and Research (SSR). The Assistant Director for Science Support and Research is the chief science officer for the Observatory and is responsible for supporting all scientific users of NRAO instruments and coordinating the scientific research of the NRAO staff. This is an opportunity for an experienced scientist, with a track record of management and leadership, to take on an influential role in the senior management team of one of the world's leading observatories. The appointee will help expand the delivery of data to a global community of astronomers (Science Ready Data Products), and contribute to the definition and planning of the Next Generation VLA - envisaged to be an interferometric array with more than 10 times the sensitivity and spatial resolution of the current VLA and ALMA, operating at frequencies spanning ∼ 1.2 − 116 GHz with extended baselines reaching across North America. The AD/SSR is responsible for managing time allocation and the proposal handling processes for the VLA, VLBA, and GBT. The AD/SSR is tasked with ensuring a uniform and effective interface for NRAO's user communities across all their telescopes and taking account of the ALMA review process which is the responsibility of the Joint ALMA Observatory. The AD/SSR manages staff responsible for common scientific services provided in support of our instruments, and coordinates outward -facing activities across all sites to minimize duplication and achieve optimal efficiency in support of all users of NRAO facilities. The AD/SSR reports to the NRAO Director. The incumbent is responsible for defining and improving NRAO's interface to our user community, and coordinating and evaluating the research environment for our scientific staff. Additionally, the AD/SSR will support and encourage scientific staff to actively participate in broader impact activities. The appointee will be a member of the NRAO Scientific Staff. The nature and level of the appointment will be negotiated with the appointee. The selected individual will be based in either Charlottesville, VA, Socorro or Albuquerque, NM, and will be expected to travel regularly between the NRAO sites and facilities. The Data Architect will define how data will be stored, integrated, secured, and accessed across the computing systems. This role will be critical in ensuring the integrity, accessibility, and long-term usability of all ng VLA data, from raw telescope observations to high-level scientific products.
