**Job Description**
The National Laboratory of the Rockies' (NLR) cybersecurity research is strengthening our grid against tomorrow's threats. This successful candidate(s) for this role will support research efforts within the Cybersecurity Research Center's research portfolio, contributing to research on topics including, but not limited to:
+ Characterization of the potential for U.S. electric grid disruption from natural hazards and human threats
+ Assessment of the cybersecurity of distributed energy systems
+ Strengthening the resilience of the U.S. electric grid
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
+ Assisting with cybersecurity testing either using hardware equipment or in virtualized environment
+ Simulation and emulation of experiments related to cybersecurity and resilience using NREL Cyber Range
+ Data analysis, virtualization, visualization, and reporting
+ Performing literature reviews and background research
+ Publishing research results in reputable conferences or journals

**Basic Qualifications**
Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a Bachelor's, Master's or PhD degree program, or graduated in the past 12 months from an accredited institution. Candidates who have earned a degree may work for a period not to exceed 12 months. Must have a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.

**Job Description**
A postdoctoral researcher role is available in NLR's RRES Center. The successful candidate will work on a project to develop performance-advantaged bioproducts that exhibit advantaged performance attributes in manufacturability, in-life performance, and / or end-of-life options. In particular, this position will focus on working with a computational materials design team screening and developing biobased monomers, synthesizing samples, optimizing formulations, and characterizing properties. Candidates will collaborate with a large, multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional team for novel material development to identify and overcome major technical hurdles to advance commercialization.
The successful candidate will be able to:
- Work safely and independently in a laboratory setting
- Plan and execute research in collaboration with other researchers
- Synthesize and characterize polymer precursors and products
- Communicate scientific results effectively, both in written and oral formats

**Job Description**
The Computational Modeling group in the BEST directorate at the National Laboratory of the Rockies (NLR) is seeking an summer undergraduate or post-undergraduate research intern to perform computational modeling and data analysis to enable optimization and scale-up of catalytic bioenergy processes.
The intern will work closely with other computational scientists and experimentalists to perform, analyze, and validate simulations of biomass and other feedstocks undergoing catalytic and thermochemical conversion processes using process scale models.
Responsibilities include:
+ Performing simulations using high-fidelity Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and reduced order models of transport and reactive processes within catalytic reactor systems
+ Implementing kinetic schemes into reduced order models and performing optimization routines to fit kinetic parameters
+ Analyzing validation experiments
+ Programming scripts to analyze results from simulations
+ Providing regular written and oral progress updates at project meetings
+ Working safely and independently in a laboratory setting
+ Planning and executing research in collaboration with other researchers
+ Contributing to the creation of technical reports and peer-reviewed publication
+ Working effectively in a large, multidisciplinary, multi-institutional team of engineers and scientists.

**Job Description**
The Protective Force Officer (PFO) plays a vital role in the National Laboratory of the Rockies (NLR) community, focusing on the detection, deterrence, and prevention of threats and hazards to maintain a safe and supportive work environment. This position resides within the Laboratory Protection (LP) Operations group at NLR.
NLR operates as a free-flow campus, welcoming staff and visitors to its facilities. While non-armed, PFOs employ de-escalation strategies to mitigate threats, ensure safety, and respond professionally to emergencies and incidents. Using a customer-focused approach, they oversee the recovery and reconstitution of normal operations. PFOs provide campus security and emergency preparedness services in alignment with applicable laws, Department of Energy (DOE) requirements, and NLR's contractual obligations.
Shift Schedules and Eligibility - Laboratory Protection operates three shifts:
- SHIFT 1: 11:00 PM - 7:30 AM (Night Shift)
- SHIFT 2: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM (Day Shift)
- SHIFT 3: 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM (Swing/Evening Shift)
Shift assignment will be determined based on team needs. This position is eligible for overtime and training opportunities.
**Key Responsibilities:**
Security & Patrol Operations:
+ Conduct regular patrols to maintain campus safety and deter unauthorized activities.
+ Monitor and control ingress/egress of vehicles, personnel, and property.
+ Respond promptly to alarms, infractions, and emergencies, assessing situations and collaborating with subject matter experts.
+ Enforce lab security procedures, federal laws, DOE orders, and departmental policies.
+ Ensure facilities are secured using key and equipment controls for locks, doors, windows, and access areas.
Emergency Response:
+ Assist Central Monitoring Stations (CMS) operators as needed to dispatch emergency protocols (e.g., fire/gas alarms, medical incidents).
+ Receive and/or relay emergency directives radio or telephone communication systems.
+ Leverage first aid certifications (First Aid/AED/CPR), FEMA/NIMS incident command methods and follow emergency management during emergencies.
+ Respond to life safety alarms via Emergency Notification System (ENS) sheets and SOPs.
Surveillance & Technology Utilization:
+ Operate CCTV systems for situational awareness and incident response as needed.
+ Document and maintain proper accountability for tools and keys.
Reporting & Team Collaboration:
+ Submit detailed reports concerning incidents, observations, and shift activities.
+ Perform effectively as part of a team, ensuring respect and professionalism.
+ Provide support to NLR staff, visitors, guests, and external agencies as needed.
Additional Responsibilities:
+ Facilitate access control at NLR via badge checks, vehicle inspections, and hosting protocols for visitors and foreign nationals.
+ Conduct periodic vehicle and foot patrols for observation and reporting.
+ Maintain certifications and qualifications, including Red Cross and FEMA training.

NLR's next DDS&T will lead the laboratory through this transformation. **Job Description**
The Cybersecurity System Analysis Group (CSAG) within NLR's Cybersecurity Research Center performs research cybersecurity research on integrated energy systems with the goal of building resiliency and reducing risk across the energy sector. Grid Automation and Control (GAC) Group of the Power Systems and Engineering Center (PSEC) at NREL is looking for an exceptional individual to support research in the advancing electromagnetic transient (EMT) modeling, and simulation of the power grid, while the power grid is transitioning to a modern grid with increasing growth of load and inverter-based resources(IBRs). The successful candidate will join a highly interdisciplinary and collaborative team of engineers, analysts, and software developers. **Job Description**
The Solutions Consultant will be a primary point of contact for National Security Research Office (NSRO) Team to coordinate and assist in providing IT solutions and support. **Job Description**
The Grid Optimization and Control Group at the National Laboratory of the Rockies (NLR) is looking for a highly motivated intern to join our team and support the development of **composite data center load models** for transmission planning studies. The internship will focus on building and validating both **detailed EMT (electromagnetic transient) models** and **RMS-based phasor models** to represent the unique characteristics of modern data centers. NLR is seeking a mid-career cyber defense operations researcher to join its Cybersecurity Research Center (CRC). The CRC conducts applied research at the intersection of cybersecurity, energy systems, and national resilience-developing the tools, methods, and scientific foundations necessary to secure and sustain the nation's evolving energy infrastructure.
CRC research spans incident response (IR) and threat detection, operational technology (OT) risk analysis, cyber-physical resilience testing, malware and artifact analysis, and defense science. **Job Description**
This position is looking for a year-round intern (summer intern is also acceptable) who has strong technical background in machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligent (AI) applications in cyber-physical power systems, ideally on the distribution grid with distributed energy resources (DERs). This pivotal role is primarily responsible for the continued implementation and management of the Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) program, while also supporting Classified Matter Protection and Control (CMPC), and Operations Security (OPSEC) programs as necessary.
The successful candidate will ensure that CUI requirements are integrated into organizational operations and information management processes. This role requires close collaboration with Legal, Export Control, Business Development, Information Governance, IT, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with DOE and other federal agencies information protection policies.
Responsibilities include:
**Policy Expertise:**
+ Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal OPSEC, CUI, and Classification policies, laws, and regulations.

**Job Description**
The Cybersecurity Threat Analysis Group (CTAG) within the National Laboratory of the Rockies (NLR) Cybersecurity Research Center performs research to make cybersecurity an enabling part of the nation's energy ecosystem. This is primarily accomplished through engaging with energy sector partners, government program offices, and national security organizations. Research areas within CTAG includes energy system modeling and simulation, threat to consequence risk analysis, and hardware & software supply chain security.
CTAG is seeking an experienced senior electric grid cybersecurity research professional to lead our Energy Threat Analysis Center (ETAC) portfolio of work. The ETAC is an operational collaborative that convenes experts from the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. energy sector to collectively identify, analyze, and mitigate cyber threats to America's critical energy infrastructure. The successful candidate will bring a combination of strong technical security background and power systems engineering. This role also requires proficiency in developing and executing cybersecurity research within a laboratory environment, knowledge of cutting-edge adversarial Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures, experience leading complex cybersecurity programs across a matrixed organization, a passion for leading and driving new research, and the ability to collaborate with partners from across the national laboratory complex, the Department of Energy, industry, and national security partners.

The Grid Automation and Control Group within the Power Systems Engineering Center (PSEC) at NLR is seeking an exceptional graduate to support cutting-edge research in modeling and simulation of modern power grids, particularly as the electric grid undergoes rapid transformation driven by the explosive growth of **large data centers** .

**Job Description**
The Geospatial Data Science (GDS) team within the Strategic Energy Analysis Center at the National Laboratory of the Rockies (NLR) is seeking a 6-12-month intern to support modeling and analysis. The GDS group conducts research at the intersection of energy deployment, big data science, and geospatial modeling and visualization. Our team of researchers develops and applies geospatial algorithms and methods to evaluate the deployment potential for energy technologies, including geothermal, hydropower, transmission, bioenergy, wind, and solar. Geospatial modeling at NLR enables detailed techno-economic assessment, capacity expansion, and power systems modeling of energy resources under a variety of regulatory, sociopolitical, and environmental factors from local to continental scales.
The successful intern candidate will support a large and diverse modeling portfolio with activities involving geospatial analyses, literature reviews, cartography, scientific programming, and tasks focused on data preparation, processing, and validation. This position will assist geospatial scientists in developing novel analytical solutions to complex challenges in energy siting, deployment, and adoption. Candidates should be interested in working in an interdisciplinary field, together with geospatial data scientists, software developers, and policy analysts, which will require excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Duties will include:
+ Manipulating multiple data sources, models, and software tools with scientific and engineering workflows for decision support and data analysis
+ Preparing and processing geospatial data using open-source desktop software and programmatic approaches
+ Conducting background research on data sets, current modeling approaches, and existing tools
+ Developing literature reviews under the guidance of research scientists
+ Programming and scripting in Python to conduct analysis and visualize data
+ Working in distributed computing environments including internal servers, NLR's high-performance computing (HPC) system and the Cloud

**Basic Qualifications**
Minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.
Undergraduate: Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a bachelor's degree program from an accredited institution.
Post Undergraduate: Earned a bachelor's degree within the past 12 months. Eligible for an internship period of up to one year.
