National Society of Black Engineers company history timeline

1975

A date was set for the first national meeting and 48 students representing 32 schools attended the event, held April 10-12, 1975.

After contacting the other 288 accredited engineering schools, the Purdue SBE held its first annual meeting in April 1975 with 48 students from 32 schools.

1976

In 1976, the NSBE was officially incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

1990

The NSBE-NYC Professionals chapter was established in 1990 and had a vision to support the pre-college engineering students and high achieving engineering professionals in the greater New York City area.

2006

Encouraging every member to get a new member, reactivating defunct chapters, and identification of new areas for international expansion will assist us in increasing our membership to a minimum of 20,000 by the close of the 2006 National Convention.
