Before President Nixon opened diplomatic doors to China in 1972, National had already begun acupuncture research and education.
Florida National University opened its first class on January 4th, 1988, in the city of Hialeah, Florida, as Florida International Institute under the administration of Doctor José Regueiro, Doctor María C. Regueiro and Mr.
National University is the flagship institution of the National University System, which was established in 2001 to meet the emerging demands for education in the 21st century.
NUHS accepts its first classes in Fall 2006 for the ND, MSAc, and MSOM programs.
In the last quarter of year 2008, the SM Group of Companies acquired majority ownership of the National University.
First class starts in Fall 2009.
Florida National College officially changed its name to Florida National University March 24, 2012, after receiving approval by its accrediting agency to offer programs at a more advanced degree level.
